Maddie comes from a well off family, her father being an antiques dealer and restorer and her mother an attorney, and both her parents are expecting her to follow in their footsteps and take over one of the family businesses. Though Maddie has no real interest in either as she feels too shy and self-concious to be the center of attention either job requires, and besides she does not want to pretend and keep up appearance as her parents expect her to. She only reluctantly goes along with it to preserve the peace, but she takes great care of her looks when it comes to her fur and hair, or at least she seems to be as she hates the regular grooming to keep her fur and hair perfectly trimmed, and she especially dislikes these sessions as she has to be pretty much nude around these people to get her fur perfect everywhere while she tends to be shy about her body. This shyness extends to social interactions as well when meeting new people or facing confrontation, however she can be a fiercely loyal friend to those who can gain her trust and she can actually gain the courage to speak up for them.

While she has no interest in most of her father's business she has decided to follow his career path for now, on the condition she can pick her own expertise in Japanese antiques, as it aligns with her own interests more or less, and her father at least seems to be alright with the compromise. Maddie is a pretty big sci-fi and animé nerd more than anything and although her parents don't agree with her hobbies they at least allow her to indulge in it, even though this is partly the cause of her social awkwardness as she doesn't really have anyone to talk to about it outside one or two people online and certainly not at school with any of the upper class students there who seem that sort of thing is beneath them. At least the studies allow her to learn more about the culture and she even gets to travel to Japan sometimes for study, and using the time away from her parents to fully endulge herself in her hobby and be herself.
