Last week I celebrated my dad's Birthday. Last year I drew a picture for him commemorating a nice memory I shared with him that year. And I wanted to repeat it this year as well.
At the tail-end of the summer my dad celebrated his 40th anniversary of working as an aircraft plate worker. It was a great day, and I got to have an exclusive look at his workplace. A privilege that very few get to have.
In the end, having a dad that's cool with who I am and what I do is even more of a privilege. And like that day, it's something I have to remind myself not to take for granted.
Thank you for reading <3

I truly do wish more dads could be as accepting as your dad. Having that kind of support in your life can indeed be easy to take for granted, but also something that I feel is just as easily underestimated by parents themselves when it comes to the kind of influence it can have on a person's motivation and dreams!
Don't think I can ever muster the courage to speak with my own parents about my fandom endeavors, but I'm always beyond grateful to the parents out there who are willing to listen and remain completely and utterly accepting of it all -- truly heartwarming stuff <3.
Massive congrats to your dad on his latest milestone, though! Fairly unsurprising that hard work and dedication runs in the family, ahaha!

This is an incredibly well written, compassionate comment. Thank you so much for taking the time to view the painting, to let it simmer. And to create such a beautiful response to that experience.
No parent is perfect. And I agree with you fully that growing up while being able to be yourself is a privilege that is priceless, and everybody should be able to have.
Until then, true praise belongs to the courage of those that are defiantly themselves around parents that are afraid to accept who they are. As that is the true force behind change.

In fairness, it's one of those kinds of artworks that resonates with me on a personal level, which I'm glad I've managed to convey through my comment well enough! Even so, you're very much welcome -- more than glad to show credit where credit is due, at that! You definitely have a point, though: just as there are indeed imperfect parents, I'm more than willing to admit that I'm far from the perfect son myself, but as long as my parents accept me, flaws and all, then I'll continue to love and accept them right back for the rest of my days.
Likewise, I can also agree that those who never quite had the benefit of a parent's love, yet continue to remain strong in its' absence, are as brave as they come. I can only congratulate those who have found the freedom to be who they feel they are meant to be in life, even in the wake of their parents' opposition, and wish nothing short of the best for those still on their arduous journey of self-validation.

Quite the interesting and heartelt comment. It's a very complicated and touchy subject I would personally say, since a parent expects a kid to end up growing up in a certain way and usually nurture said kid in a direction but at the same time the kid is their own person regardless of nurture.
I too am one that don't want to discuss it or reveal it to my parents but I have a feeling they already know it or would accept it regardless since they already have came to terms that I am my own peson and being something like this won't change who I am in heart only how I choose to communicate it. I guess the real solution is healthy communication and setting aside what you expected from life and what you actually got.

Thank you! As much as I enjoy playing the role of a goofy fox on the internet, I can always enjoy how many art pieces I may stumble across that have a deeper meaning than what may be seen at the surface!
But yeah, I wouldn't blame folks for wanting to shy away from this kind of discussion at times. I'd definitely be lying if my parents didn't have expectations of me that I wasn't all that interested in upholding at times. Thankfully, over the years, they've been a lot more accepting of me just being my own person, trusting that I know what's best for myself.
But yeah, having said that, I'd also agree that they'd probably think that me being in the fandom is 'weird' at worst, but they'd likely still accept me regardless :P. Considering the other kinds of unsavory lifestyles some folks in my community may adopt, anything that keeps me out of legal trouble - or anything of that nature - would probably be just fine by them.
So yeah, I'd agree! Just having that potential to bring it up with my parents is at least all I can ask for. I probably never will, especially since me not telling them isn't eating me up inside, but it isn't lost on me how lucky I am that I'm in a position to do so.

That's a very wholesome and heartwarming story and Happy birthday to your great dad! It's nice to hear that you and your dad have a close bond. It's really nice that you get to connect with your family over special occasions like your dad's birthday. I think that's something that a lot of people forget to appreciate in their daily lives, so you being so aware of that is really great ππ€
This looks so cute man. Happy 40th anniversary and happy birthday to your awesome dad. He definitely sounds like a dad anyone can ask for. I hope he enjoys his birthday. π I started a job myself a couple weeks ago. I'm working at a warehouse in a place called tender hearts. I'm enjoying the job so far.
