New game came out with goofy shenanigans and mysteriously vanishing allies in a hostile environment? What a wonderful opportunity to ingest some friends and pretend they went missing from one of the million other hazards around!
This was supposed to just be a quick little side drawing thing but I kinda got carried away haha whoopsie-daisy.
Purple Ringtail made a lovely prequel that pairs quite nicely with this, here!

Fun fact for all of those who are unfamiliar: You only incur a penalty if you don't retrieve the employee's body. Ergo, this would actually be a sound strategy.
Human: "Did you find Jerry?"
Gator: "Yup." (dumps all his loot)
Human: "What about his body? Did you find-"
Gator: (the button blows off his pants and his gut flops out) "Eheheh..." (blushes)

There's already a theory going around that the Company is actually a prison for Jeb and your whole purpose in collecting scrap is just to keep it fed so it doesn't break out.
My own personal take on that is that Jeb is indeed hungry, but not for material as much as for knowledge and stimulation. Which is why novelties like rubber ducks and magic 8-balls have more value than V-type engines. You bring him something mechanical and it doesn't take him long to figure out what it does. But bring him a novelty and he spends hours upon hours pondering "Why? What's its purpose? Why would someone make this?"
Which I only mention here because it would also explain why the body of a crew mate is only worth $5. And also justify *ahem* keeping them on the ship with all the keys, stop signs, and anything else you find that may have more value for the crew.
"What is this?! Alligator food?! BO-RING!"
