It especially happens on the last day of a fur meet. About two hours before closing, the volume of people goes way up- but sales don't increase much. Then suddenly there is an announcement over the speakers...
"The event is now closed, please make your way to the exists."
Suddenly, the noise level goes up twice over, there are a few people running about like there is a fire and they have no idea where the exits are- and more money changes hands in 20 minutes than did in the last three days, lol.

To add to Silberlynx's helpful post, "Easy solution: just say you're closed but in secret: you're open! And of course when you say you're open you don't actually take any."
I add the following.
And when they ask when you will be open again, you should answer, "Well, I could squeeze in one more... But you should not take too long. (With $$$ to seal the deal being the implied point.) I am attending an event soon..."
Of course an event could be anything. Just leave it at that. If they ask what event, simply say "It involves travel, not sure when I will be back." Of course that could even be a trip to the local coffee shop and sometimes they have very long lines, lol- but they don't need to know that.
I kid somewhat, but good sales is about creating the illusion of scarcity. Many artists will post that they have five open slots. Yet I notice two or three "filled" right off the bat. I do wonder where the first two or three came from though...
Is it unethical? Well in the end if you don't charge insanely high costs for your services because of it, I don't see the harm. There is a line betwixt generating demand on a regular basis, with a reasonable price and milking the customer for everything they have.
And what happens when you get a nice, steady, even income over a full month, but feel your time and art are worth more? You raise prices until demand and cashflow find your reasonable balance. This will then cause some to look elsewhere- and broaden the market. This is the beautiful side of Capitalism my friend.

It happens to me a lot because I don't know when an artists has commissions open but when I see them posting a bunch of cool pictures I want some but at that time their closed. Maybe artists shouldn't post pictures unless they are open for more commissions, probably the best time to advertise your art.
