Mako felt tired. He blamed his late night dream. It was a great dream though. Mako couldn’t remember the last time he ever had such an intense dream. It felt very real and to see his scrawny roommate bloat up, growing wider and fatter was frightening and somehow intoxicating. Mako had never felt any sort of intimidation before and to have someone rival his size like that was intense.
That dream might of woken him up but Mako stayed up a couple of hours after playing it over in his mind again and again. Now he had to deal with the consequences.
The large man lumbered down the road from his apartment, his laundry basket under his arm with his bedding stuffed inside it. The walk from his building wasn’t too far to the laundromat and the warm sun felt nice. There was a cool breeze too. It would be fall soon enough. Mako would have to trade his tank top for a hoodie soon enough.
As he came up to the old laundromat building, Mako reached into his pocket and pulled out a roll of quarters. Walking in, he was surprised that there was already a washing machine on. No one was ever washing before noon. More surprising was that it was Jamie sitting on a folding table across from the washers.
“Ayi, mate!” Jamie looked up to see Mako pushing his way through the door frame. “Don’t you sleep till noon?” He asked curiously, though his face beamed brighter than usual.
Mako nodded slowly before dropping his laundry basket on top of one of the washers. “Yeah, but I needed to wash my sheets.” He said in a lower then usual tone.
“Washing your sheets too? Great minds think alike eh?” Jamie chuckled as he turned his attention back to the video he was watching on his phone.
Mako merely grunted as he began to stuff his laundry into the washer. He pulled some quarters from his wrapper to get some detergent packs and began his cycle.
Usually after starting his laundry, Mako would go back to the apartment for a while but Jamie was here. He was sure Jamie wouldn’t care if he left, but he didn’t want to leave, not unless Jamie left too. For now, he just sat in the flimsy plastic chair next to the folding table. Glancing over, Mako could see the video on Jamie’s phone just enough.
“What are you always watching?” Mako finally spoke up to break the quiet between them.
Jamie’s smile widened a bit as he tilted his phone towards Mako to let him see better. It was a video of a couple; a man and woman welding parts together, making a go-kart. The result was a go-kart that was dressed up to look like a dragon with a large motorcycle engine powering it. The couple gave it a test drive and Mako was surprised to see this machine fly down a street at probably fifty miles and hour.
“Whoa, that even legal?”
“Hehe, probably not but it sure looks fun!” Jamie squealed excitedly.
“I imagine if you drove that thing and crashed brutally, you’d still be having the time of your life.”
“Right ya are about that!”
The thought of Jamie blazing down the road in a clunky looking dragon go-kart was a funny, especially with that hyena laugh of his. Mako wondered if Jamie could actually build something of the sort.
Leaning back in the cheap chair, Mako let out a a thoughtful sigh. “We’re both off today… Did ya want to do anything?”
“Oh yeah, we are off today. Hmm, maybe yeah?”
Mako took a glance at Jamie and noted that thoughtful look of his. It reminded Mako of that statue thinking if the statue had intentions of mayhem.
“I wanna try that game you were playing.”
Mako raised a brow. It was a bit surprising to hear Jamie want to play a game. They had been living together for a couple of weeks at this point and he hadn’t seen Jamie show interest in any of his consoles no matter how much he offered.
“I tried to look up some videos about that game you played last night. It looked cool but was really confusing. The videos didn’t help much though.” Jamie chuckled sheepishly.
“Oh, so you want me to show you how to play?” Mako asked with a grin.
Jamie gave a slow nod. “If that’s okay with you. I’m sure you got better ways to spend your day.”
Mako chuckled, resting a hand on top of his stomach. “No problem at all but if we’re gonna do it, we gotta do it right.” His grin grew wider.
Jamie gave a cautious leer at the giant and tucked his phone away. “Yeah, and how do we do it right?”
“Gotta get some snacks!”
Jamie cackled at that statement. “Do you always think about food?”
“It’s weird if you’re not.” Mako retorted.
Once their sheets were done washing and had been loaded into the dryer, Mako gestured to Jamie. “Come on, we’ll get our snacks and grab our laundry once we’re back.”
“Yeah alright.” Jamie nodded and followed after his roommate. “Say, why you washing your sheets?”
Mako’s shoulders tensed up a bit at the question. “Oh, just uh, needed a freshing up.” He grunted. “What about you?”
“Y-Yeah, was a bit crusty from living out of my car so much.” Jamie cleared his throat awkwardly, blushing as they left for their trip.
