This week's
Thursday_Prompt was a story gift exchange, and I was given
N.Tac.W as my recipient. What with the first story I read there being The Rat and the Coin, the idea of a poor rat trying to make do in a city just kind of jumped on me. And I'd already done a bit of a Christmas (or at least Solstice) theme with Painting the Cathedral and Painting the Skies, so the ideas kind of melded together as they do, and the result was this, where a poor rat in the city sees things possibly looking up for a change...

Thanks!
I described Janin in the first story with 'knew what being alone was like too well to want to subject others to that more than necessary'... she may be a bit of a 'punk' in the classical anti-authoritarian sense, but she really does look out for people, especially 'her' people.

And thank you.
Sometimes ideas just seem to take on a life of their own. Eventually I may actually write the other two time period stories that 'Painting the Cathedral' was supposed to be bracketed by, but for now the characters have their own lives, as they so often seem to.
If you're curious, here's the best picture of Janin for her colours: /view/38229823/. (My family actually had a cali-by like that years ago.)
