One curious point I asked him about was his moniker, Broaster, and he explained it was simply a nickname some shipmates had given him after he called for his favorite meal of Roasted Broccoli. Roast jumbled into Broast and they started calling him Broaster. He admitted being in his cups at the time, so his tongue would sometimes slip.
