Originally bioengineered by the ancient and cruel Tenebris, the Codice are a race of small humanoids who once served the Tenebris as a slave caste. Approximately 7,865 years ago the Codice rebelled from the Tenebris alongside several other enslaved or oppressed peoples in a pivotal event dubbed by Galactir historians as the great Severance War. Following the eventual rebellion victory, a large centralized government body named the Codician Allegiance was formed between the Codice and their wartime allies. While smaller sub-governments do exist for differing sectors and species, a tentative democracy has been established between them.

The territory commanded by the Codician Allegiance now rivals both the old Dragon Empire and the more recent Tenebris Collective in size, dominating much of the galaxy in colonies of varying economic or strategic purposes. The Codice themselves heavily utilize machines and cybernetic augmentations to fill various industrial niches. Consequently, Codice are the premier engineering specialists in the galaxy, with Humans as their fiercest competitors.

Relations between Humanity and the Codice empire are largely friendly and cooperative, as trade agreements and military alignments have proven largely beneficial in light of Arache and Tenebris threats. Still, it is not uncommon for certain branches of Codice society to look down upon Humanity. This is largely due to Humans' disproportionate economic strength for their relative youth in the galactic community and near complete non-reliance upon Codice ties to support themselves compared to other races in the galaxy.
