As someone who is quite the anxious, stressful sort, Nivlac has gone through a variety of options to try and figure out something to maintain any degree of stability for his mental state. Medication had the opposite effect by making him worry about side effects and addiction, alcohol also had the worry of addiction on top of the risk of poisoning himself if he got carried away. After getting a few potted plants to maintain as a distraction from other things, he had the idea of making it larger scale to require effort and attention. And so a considerable chunk of his yard was converted to a personal zen garden, complete with coarse sand to rake patterns into whenever it struck his fancy.
