“Urbana Corp is proud to present the latest innovation in robotics and AI personality. Meet the M(ilitary) I(ndustrial) N(exus) U(tility) S(ystem) or Minus. First developed in the year 2003 as a word document office assistant by famed researcher Lena von Klammer, after twenty years of tweaks and upgrades to the software, we now have a fully functional and very personable robotic helper for your needs at home or work.” – Urbana Corp. release blurb.
Minus is Lena’s pet project. The researcher having diligently worked the past two decades on making an AI that could be transferred out of a computer into any sort of smart device. You can have Minus on your watch, as your car’s internal computer, but the main repository for a Minus AI is in a robotic body for tasks such as cleaning, cooking and home defense. The original program is saved on one of the company’s older computers and also a few hundred thousand floppy disks in case something goes wrong.
Most Minus units are a rough copy of the original AI. Their personality and higher thinking abilities dulled so that they do their ordered tasks without question. However the original program has developed quite the ability to not only make decisions on its own but also interact with others as if they were a real flesh and blood living being. While technically a computer program and thus genderless, the original Minus seems to prefer to put themselves in the female body shell when it comes to moving about the labs and offices. Minus uses this form to assist Lena and other employees with their daily tasks as much as possible and once a day’s work is finished, they reconnect to their PC housing and let the body shutdown and charge. A sort of “sleep” function that while not required for operational ability, is a unique trait that has some question if the AI is imitating their flesh and blood friends.
The only real concerning development is that Minus seems to have recently developed the ability to show anger, or at least has figured out how to change the light settings on her eyes. More testing might be needed before the deluxe version of the personality is released to the public.
