For the past several years I've done small wet-plate photos to use as Christmas cards for friends and family.

A lovely and enchanting seasonal postcard, thank you for making and sharing it!

It is peculiar to see more "modern" materials, like those reflective tape gift bows,
in such a convincingly aged photo!

It’s not aged in any particular way. That’s just how wet plate looks. Collodion is orthochromatic, can’t see reds and blues go white. That’s part of the charm and challenge.

Aged by the use of medium, then! But thank you for spurring me into doing a little research on darkroom photography development!
You used to have to be a half-engineer, half-chemist to do photography back then.
Now you need to be a half-programmer, half-copyright lawyer.

I'm amazed by some of the cool tricks cell phone cameras can do. Wet plate has one advantage. You end up with a real object, a metal plate, with an immutable image of a slice of time.

I really like the 'half-programmer, half-copyright lawyer' thing, I'm gonna steal it.

Tangibility is an important and unavoidable appeal to us handy humans.
An e-book is convenient, but there's nothing like licking your finger to turn a page.

Flattered to have come up with something steal-worthy!

I like the tone too. The tone is the natural color of the plate after varnishing.

Oh take me back to those Christmas' past...

one of the first I remember, my parents too angel hair (old time fiberglass insulation) and ran it from the fireplace to the Christmas tree, telling us Santa's beard was shedding. we swallowed it hook line and sinker...

Ha! I'd almost forgotten about 'angel hair'. I remember one of my aunts did her whole tree with tons of the stuff. I thought it looked like a giant spiders web with lights inside.
