Somewhere, in the deep frozen mountains...
Long-eared critters in fur-trimmed lab coats scurry about in the central chamber of a monumental cavern. The icy floor is polished to a mirror sheen, and it is only thanks to their specialized shoes that they don't go sliding into one another. Flickering lights and alarms warn them to any minor fluctuations in the colossal wall of ice that commands the attention of everyone here. Roughly hewn and nearly 10 feet thick, the ice nevertheless illuminates the cavern with the soft blue cast of whatever is behind it.
Carved in the center of its surface is something that, at first glance, seems like an enormous snowflake. As you get closer, you can tell that shape is simply the contour of a dizzying array of runes and magic circles, all forming a magical seal the complexity of which boggles the mind. As you get closer, you begin to realize the entire cave seems to resonate an almost musical hum.
You feel a paw on your shoulder, bringing you back from a slightly zoned-out state.
"Best not to focus too much on that sound." the hare gives you a friendly, but stern smile and leads you down onto the floor. A swarm of bunnies scurry about, offering him of some piece of cryptic data that he either absorbs or deflects based on some unknown criteria. He finds his way to a round table, occupied by eight other long-eared gentlemen who all gladhand each other before taking their seats.
"How long has it been like this?"
"Twelve Days. It's been getting worse the closer we get."
"Especially in the evenings. I can tell you, this last week has been eight crazy nights."
"Can't we just face it, unafraid...?"
"Trust me, the thing dies hard."
The each gulped, turning to face the wall of frost. You could almost make out some shadowy figure stalking around behind it's surface, probing for weakness. It rears up its head, and the whole cave thrums with its horrible, almost hypnotic melody.
"I don't think it'll hold much longer. We need to get everyone out, or the council will have our nuts roasting over an open fire!"
"Sigh..." Sirocco dips his head and clasps his fingers. "This all used to be so much easier. I remember being home for the holidays. Now, all I want..."
Everyone at the table gasped, some drawing weapons and leveling a quivering barrel at the hare.
"Don't say it! Don't..."
"I...." he trembled. The words were already on his lips. How long had his ears been up, tuning to that beautiful music? "But... now... all I want...
Some of his cohorts trembled, tears in the corners of their eyes.
"...for Christmas..."
Their tense, trembling paws squeezed for the triggers, but they had already become clunky, keratinous hooves.
"...IS YOU!!"
His words echoed through the chamber with an eldritch might! All nine commander hares thrashed and growled as a flood of magical, blue light poured from their eyes and muzzles. The song was only growing louder, peaking to a crescendo that sent deep fractures through the icy barrier.
"...OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.."
That long, ghostly note saturated the air, filling everyone and everything with a sense of reassurance. With warmth. Almost like it was comforting them for their failure. Wrapping them up in a warm, fluffy hug and cooing that they'll do better next time...
All at once, and explosive fracture sent titanic chunks of of ice hurtling away from the epicenter. Each one splintered, and then splintered again until the ice was a nothing but a swirling blizzard of sparkling dust that washed over the horde of rabbits and hares. Each one twisted and squealed as a mantle of long, branch-like antlers sprouted from their heads. Narrow, agile paws hardened and clattered to the floor as enormous, clumsy hooves. Each one raised its head, braying and trumpeting as their snouts twisted and their bodies filled with strength and holiday cheer!
And rising from the ruins of the devastated seal was a humanoid figure. Warm skin and long, sandy waves of hair that framed her shoulders like the mane of a lion. Each step of her heels echoed through the now piercingly silent cave, drawing all of her new Christmas thralls' attention to the peppermint red-and-white evening dress which hugged every curve and swoop of her shapely form. She took in one long, refreshing breath of fresh air. It fueled her lungs for the dark task set before her, tossing up her arms as crimson lips parted and flooded the resonant chamber with her eldritch music.
"All I want for Christmaaaaaas is YOOOOOU!"
Mariah Carey has breached containment! This is not a drill! Emergency! Emergency! I repeat; we have an SCP on the loose!
Raawr! I've been terrible about uploading commissions! I think I am legitimately about a year behind. I got this one just this month, though, and it seemed relevant to the season! Gosh, folks really seem to like my big, beastly were-ibou form. Maybe I'll make this a yearly thing.... ^___^
