Belle perhaps having begun to warm up to Beast a little and she had gone so far as to attempt rubbing him under the chin and stroking his fluffy chest fur, though Beast still being a little unused to such affections had gotten a little growly and snarly. He did regret his display of ill temper, so had accepted to be bound until he'd calmed down, reflecting that perhaps he could break free fairly easily with his strength but he would accept his fate and place himself at the mercy of Belle secretly hoping that she would subject him to a belly rub.

If the tale was a tragedy, I could imagine the beast captured by the townsfolk, who bring him to the town for a public execution.

It’s a morbid thought, but sometimes it’s interesting to imagine stories in new interpretations.

In a 1950s real actors movie version, the Beast really was captured by the townsfolk and poletied to be executed shortly before Belle could lift the spell, but the happy end came to pass.
