I've solidified Daphne's backstory a bit - she grows another head every seven years or so, so each of these pictures is of her shortly before she grows another. There's no limit, either. It's not all fun, though; I've got a story in mind for her that shows just what it's like to be her, and what use she puts her ability to.

Growing an extra head involves a few weeks of being bedridden with a terrible fever, trouble breathing, and an insatiable appetite as her metabolism kicks into high gear to grow an entire new head from scratch plus all of the support it needs internally. On the plus side, she knows when to expect it to happen again, and she can be ready for it.
And now that two people have asked for it, I think I'll have to sketch how she'll look with four.

It's probably a painful process, growing and realigning... but it's a great character concept. I am curious, as neonigma is, if the heads come with their own personalities, souls, etc... the differing appearance at age 20 suggests independent thought, yet they're all colloquially named 'Daphne'.
Very intriguing character, would love to see more!

So, does she also get smarter with each new head?
And if she gets separate sets of lungs for each head, does mean a whole respiratory system for each head, fully disconnected from each other?
And lastly, does she throw a special birthday party or something for each new head or just keeps a low profile (if you can actually keep a low profile while having several heads - unless that it's common in her world, that is)?

No smarter, but adding extra copies of all those sensory organs makes her that much more perceptive. Each head does get its own respiratory system, too (so she can, for instance, get a sore throat or laryngitis in one head and not the others). As for celebrating them - that you'll just have to see. It happens seldom enough, though, that it does need to be recognized somehow.
The former.
First, her lungs and trachea split. There's an independent pair of lungs for each head; they all connect to the same circulatory system, so she only really needs one head to breathe with (even if it results in that one head hyperventilating when she's got the others underwater, for instance). They can all speak at once or in turn, though, as she sees fit. The esophagus is next, although all of them lead to the same stomach. She's feverish and bedridden through this whole phase, and needs to eat massive amounts of protein, but it's still just internal at this point.
After that, one of her spines begins to split apart. This is why she's got multiple tails as well as the heads; they're all on separate spines, set parallel to one another. This is when the new head starts to form, pushing the others apart. This process is the kind of thing the Corps has to oversee, just to make sure it goes smoothly; she's growing a new body part from a single cell to the same as her current age, so it has to pass through all the steps between very quickly.
Changing shape is hard, and don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

Separate lungs? I was going to say that separate tails would set her hips wider, but more lungs would seem to demand more room in her thorax, more than I think I see. Are there also separate thoracic cavities and diaphragms?
Also, I understand she has one brain, but does she talk to herself? Not only when she's alone, but with other people, does she respond to something she just said? (Please write your story.)

The individual lungs are smaller; the whole 'separate lungs' thing is just a way to handle letting individual heads breathe independently. If you can come up with a better solution, I'm open to hearing it.
Daphne would talk to herself for the same reasons anyone with a single head would - feeling out an idea, psyching herself up - but she never responds to something she just said unless she's pretending to be split. She does have multiple brains, but they're all very specialized. Again, that'll be part of the story; it'll be answered there.

Well also remember that lungs need to feed the heart as well as help talk. Big part of breathing. I can see the lungs starting to branch but have to come together at some part to feed the heart.
The other thing I would think about is that while they would start out with the same personality I would imagine as she age her individual brains may have separate brain synapse firing, slightly different experiences, things process slightly different and these slight different things would cause things as she gets older she would start experiencing differences in personality between the two heads becoming more effectively twin sisters with very similar experiences rather then one person.
