Nyx is the goddess and personification of the night in Greek mythology. She is one of the first deities to emerge from Chaos, the primordial void, and the mother of many powerful forces and concepts, such as Death, Sleep, Dreams, Strife, and Retribution. She is often depicted as a black-robed figure who drives a chariot across the sky, accompanied by stars and sometimes by her daughter Hemera. However, in the Renaissance, she began to be depicted in purple or blue robes, unlike the classical Greek.
According to classical Greek mythology, it was she who gave birth to Hypnos, the soporific god. According to the Greek current of Orphism, she had an affair with him as a result of which Morpheus, the God of dreams, was born, which makes Hypnos his brother and father (the most ordinary family of ancient Greece)
