So, let's introduce to you a bunch of characters I've had in my mind for quite a while now: the Galactic Scouts, an initiative from UFIS. For this, scouts from different member worlds from UFIS and allied planets go on summer camp on different planets as a means to stimulate cultural exchange and build intergalactic friendships. To stimulate it even more, the groups are mixed completely, and usually, the kids going on camp for the first time, don't know their camp mates. The hope is that they make new friends over the course of 15 days, and learn new skills and cultures. Here we have one such group of 12, 13 year olds in the year 2052, going on a summer camp on the planet of Vidar, one from an upcoming story series I'm writing.

So, who's who? Let's go by them one by one...

Idris

Human

The story series will be told from Idris' perspective, a boy born and raised in Singapore. Although he's a scout, he hasn't seen much nature outside parks in his city, and the scarce nature surrounding the city state. He hasn't seen much of the universe, or his own home world, let alone has he seen aliens before. Yet, he's a curious boy and has always been dreaming to see the stars, and when he got selected, he could hardly contain his excitement. But as a debutant in space, he has a lot to learn from his fellow camp mates.

Mi'oki

Chtyruce

The blue marsupial Chtyruce boy has been well accustomed to life in space. We have seen him before a few years younger on the Pioneer, as the son of the ship's chief Engineer Turash-Kae, which has become his home for several months of the year. He has been surrounded by aliens in his youth on the ship, and has been to places. Mi'oki is quite technical minded, though not quite a tech genious as his mom is, but on the other hand, he's quite decisive and having such experience with other alien cultures, he's shaping up to be quite a diplomat. Although he's quite used to the metal surroundings of the ship, he still loves being in nature, no matter which world it is.

Hayne

Kalasian

The young kid is a passionate reader, especially novels about the brave and famous mercenaries known as the Kalasian Rangers. Although she knows that her poor eyesight of her upper head basically rule out ever becoming a Ranger herself, she likes to dress as one. She is an adventurous spirit and joined the scouting to get at least a taste of what such adventures would like. She's quite inventive, and her scouting leaders at her home planet were surprised how quickly she figured out tying certain knots without any prior instructions. She's very eager to meet the others, and go on adventure with them on a strange new world she's never seen before.

Shaxaëla

Hedseon

She's the prankster of the group, a very playful soul that never really took life seriously. But don't let all the fun and games fool you: if she has put her mind to something, she usually gets things done. The problem is getting her mind there in the first place. Easily distracted, impulsive, naive, and sometimes she's crossing people's boundaries a bit too much, which she usually regrets after the fact.

Quillina

Idonine

This serpentine girl is a hard worker, and quite a dedicated scout herself with a heart of gold. She's quite dependable and got accolades in quite a few skills, such as fire making, cooking and knotting. She cares a lot about others around her and is quite generous with her help. She does risk overburdening herself trying to keep everyone satisfied. She is very eager to make new friends, and hopes to keep them as friends for life

Jinfasa

Raelon

Jinfasa suffers from a rare albino condition, which not only gives him white fur and red eyes, but also poor eyesight. But that doesn't stop this shy and timid boy to go on an adventure, though often he questions himself why he ever agreed to starting this. But with enough care, he does enjoy all the scouting stuff. His parents signed him up for this camp, hoping he would open up a bit and grow a bit braver, and start to enjoy life as it comes more.

Doryk

Cetian

Doryk doesn't talk much; he lets his actions speak. He loves physical activities and spending his time outdoors, and is always willing to lend a helping hand when someone can't keep up anymore. He's got four them, so plenty enough to help. However, Doryk can be a bit clumsy, and is quite indecisive when being put in a leading role.

Sitarka

Khyrian (refugee)

Coming from a species of space pirates, she's an orphan found by an UFIS ship in the wreckage of what was left of her family's ship. She was given to a Zhareni foster family, who mistook "Sitarka" for being her name, which plainy means "32" in her language (as she didn't have earned a name yet). A bit of a loner and outsider, still holding on to her pirate background from time to time. She's sent to the camp to make new friends and her foster parents hope she would open up to others more and get more social in general.

Vina

Vidari

Vina is the troop leader. She is a former Civil Guard member, but a permanent injury in her right foot forced her to quit her job. She didn’t want to be relegated to an office job, where she would surely be mocked for her short height, something most other Vidari in her team already did, and only her competences could shut them up for a while. Sincethen, she works with children and teenagers to help them fulfill their dreams, and one of these things is being a Vidari Explorer leader, a scouting-like. She was assigned to this group via that organisation. Her role of leadership is to let children figure things out as much on their own, while nudging them in the right direction with subtle hints. She has also become quite skilled walking with a crutch, even being able to "run" for short sprints (it would look more like hopping like a kangaroo).

Some of these were harder to draw than others (especially the Khyrian was hard), but I'm glad I finally finished them all before the end of the year. It's quite a colourful cast of characters altogether
