This is a little in-universe informational blurb about the country of Ridgecrescent (the fictional nation in which my novel Thousand Leaves and much of The Seventh Chakra take place).
Technically, this is something of a science fiction setting, though I imagine it as being rather contemporary to the real world, set perhaps just 50 years in the future in terms of technology, as well as in terms of global issues (environment, overpopulation, etc.).
Those of you who have read either of my books know that I have several countries in this world that I've got worked out, but Ridgecrescent has been by far the most prominent so far. Since I was writing a political novel in the mid 00s, I tried very hard to make sure that the country didn't just come across as a pastiche of the U.S., because that wasn't my intent at all (really, my inspiration for Ridgecrescent comes from a pair of other countries which I've mentally combined and reformed into, well, this).
Anyhow, I just thought I'd share this with folks in case they found it interesting. Most of it is stuff I wrote a long time ago as promo material, but it's still relevant.

Thousand Leaves focuses a lot on the politics of the settings you see in The Seventh Chakra. Well, at least the politics of the country of Ridgecrescent.
I didn't completely plan things this way from the start, but the way it worked out is that Thousand Leaves is the sociopolitical book, The Seventh Chakra is the religion and philosophy book, and the next book in the series (which I swear I'll finish someday) is the military book.
Which isn't to say that there won't be others to come. I have more ideas than I can likely probably write!

The next novel I plan to write in this setting covers the events of the Butterfly Islands War, yes. I had actually planned for it to be the second book I wrote, but I was having real trouble getting the story to work, and while I was fighting with it, the plot and concept behind The Seventh Chakra took form more firmly in my head, so I switched gears and wrote that instead. :)
There's a little teaser promo I gave (er, over a year ago) where I talk about what's to come. Unfortunately, it's probably still going to be a couple of years before that book sees the light of day, since I've been working on (yet another) project which I can't quite announce just yet.
Hopefully it'll all be worth the wait.

Oh neat, must've missed that little snippet due to not discovering that site until after reading Chakra (haven't been nearly enough updates there post-Christmas, alas). Looking forward to finding out more about Boots' past along the way. :3
And good luck with your current project!

Iiiinteresting. This comes closest to (but by no means completes the act of) answering most of my questions about the Butterfly Islands War.
Many remain, but I'm confident that at least some will be answered in time.
Perhaps I can coax others out of you with generous gifts of food and adult beverages, when/if we chance to meet.

I love world-building detail like this. ^.^ I haven't had a chance to read Thousand Leaves or The Seventh Chakra, yet, but they're on my wish/shopping list (the story in Roar 3 has me interested in learning more about that world, but I need to make a more significant dent in my existing reading list before I can justify spending more money on books).
I'd be curious to know how much history you have mapped out and how closely, if at all, it mirrors "Earth" history. My own wold-building work wound up starting at what is roughly the equivalent of Ancient Egypt... Which is probably overkill (my rough time-line runs about 4,500 years or so), but it's something I enjoy working on when I'm not doing more focused writing.
