Conifer is a winter forest spirit. Tradition has it that you can capture one of these little winter spirits. Spanking one chases away the negative energy from the year to bring luck and good fortune in the year to come.
Hawthorne is doing just that. As a huntsman/woodsman he is very familiar with the other creatures of the forest and has caught one of these mischievous forest spirits on behalf of the town.
