This was my final render for a beginner 3D class I was enrolled in for Winter of 2011. We didn't cover anything about rigging or normal maps, so this was the best I could do with the tools that I knew. We did however learn how to unwrap a model and texture it, but the unwrapper wouldn't work properly on my model so I had to leave it un-textured.
I'm not entirely happy with it, but considering how it's my first character model in the 3D medium, I'm willing to cut myself a little slack. Maya can be a tricky bitch at times, and this model was the reason that a lot of my time was sucked away during the past two weeks. I had to cut out a few extra details in preparation for the deadline (mainly claws/talons and spines, extra detail and such), but I think it stands on it's own well enough for a base model.
Oh yeah, I modeled the pick-axe too.
Expect to see a rendered turn around of the model from better angles in the future since this angle doesn't do the model much justice...
Will move to scraps if I ever take this model any further than it's current state.
