One thing I wanted to portray in this last scene that one of the big differences between Spike and Jake's mentality is that if Spike is in possession of something that has bad feelings or memories tied to it, as long as it still has some sort of use to someone or COULD be useful later, he will keep it and find it a purpose and not let it go to waste (clumsily foreshadowed in the first page where his night on galley duty he tends to make stews and soups to use any food bits that might be starting to expire so as to not waste anything) While Jake's mentality is "Burning things that make you sad DOES have a purpose! The purpose is 'watching it burn makes me smile!'" both being valid ways to cope I suppose.
It's not my AU, but I should hope that all the stowaways aboard the ship of perpetual bangitude find new purpose themselves with their new found family with benefits.
