Just a quick sketch that's turned into a job of work. Although I had big plans to "retire" early, my regular check from Pogey is so bloody small that I couldn't possibly live on it. So I'm only half retired. *sigh*

Pogey (or Pogie) is an old expression for The Dole, or Public Handout, ie: welfare, not so much in use anymore and probably in few Icelandic/English dictionaries.

Hmm. I've only known Pogey from the Marines' use of the phrase 'Pogey bait', to mean candy, especially candy given to chinese prostitutes.

I think "Pogey" was originally from Irish use, and it came to be quite common in Canada. Maybe on the fringes of English civilization (America, for instance) it never caught on.

I thought it was a reference to the Pogues, an Irish band that seems to try to see how many times they can include variants of the word f*ck in every one of their songs. They don't always succeed AFAIKT.
