Shimmergloom, mostly on account of her Digimon art (I confess), was one of the first furry artists I came across on dA--and, to be fair, most of her work was even of the scaly persuasion. For ages I followed her work with delight, and we'd exchange fun comments with one another.
Then, one day, I got a commission from her. I think it was one of those "give me ideas and I'll draw something I want from the pile" sort of setups. I was thrilled, because I knew she did great work with reptiles--and with reptilian traits freshly added to my character, the blend should be more up her alley than ever before.
Shimmergloom's work here highlights the bifurcation of dragon and canid; where Sthenno's piece blended the two almost seamlessly, the divisions here are more abrupt and chunky, making it look like a transformation may be in progress that alters the balance between the two. The pose reminded me of something from a comic book (to say nothing of the muscularity!), so I here included a title reminiscent of one of the costumed crime fighters of my youth.
I'm not sure if Shimmer has an account on here (it would probably have "Zilla" in it somewhere, as that was another of her aliases), but like many artists I was privileged to know as I came into this community of delightful freaks, her involvement seems to have tapered off of late, and new work from her now seems a rarity (albeit a delightful one). That doesn't diminish my thankfulness one iota, all the same.
