Of the three paintings I mentioned in one of my previous uploads, I drew this first. I saved it last just to prove a point of the importance of understanding references.
Robot Defiler's robot-sona already existed as a 3D sculpted model so when I asked if I could draw her, she was able to take a screenshot that I could follow along. Because of that, I was able to get better understanding how the light shines and reflects off of the character's body, how it contorts accordingly to give the sense of space, where shapes concave and convex and how the lighting affects the nearby surfaces. It actually makes it look more realistic in comparison to the ones I've done without a reference or a guide/preparations to put the lighting into their places. It even allowed me to get the ridges and openings done properly without feeling like it's off or that I had to sacrifice prior work to make them believable.
I'd argue that this piece now tops my previous personal best picture completely.
