My Little Dorey
We all knew this was going to happen sooner or later. Yes, I too am madly in love with My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, and this really shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone. After all I always had a big soft spot for the original 80's show, between the general sense of friendship and kindness and gentleness, and thinking that the idea of a show centered around talking quadropedal animals seemed pretty neat. Symptoms of early-stage furry onset no doubt.
While I love the classic, Friendship is Magic has captured my heart even more I think. It's the right mix to me of that same vision of a gentler, more loving world that the original gave us and a lot of disturbingly good writing. For all that the characters have their own personality aspects they embody, they manage to feel real and their interactions with one another feel genuine. Characters who in most other shows would be taken to an extreme where nearly all of them were obnoxious, in this show all remain lovable in their own unique ways that continue to make it nearly impossible for me to choose a most or least favorite.
Unpaid advertising aside, here's a Dorey pony for ya. Pegasus because I'm a dragon and kind of used to having wings. And the cutie mark is a pawprint with a star in the middle, because both paws and stars are things that carry deep personal meaning for me.
Reference art consisted of a couple screenshots of Doctor Whooves for the face and Rainbow Dash for the wings and pose, but the drawing is all me. You can tell by the sketchy and unclean look of the lines that I failed to completely fix and because I lack any sort of proper vector graphics software.
Also I should point out I'm not a -complete- bandwagon jumper, and call attention to the fact that I've done MLP fanart before (http://www.furaffinity.net/view/550539/). Which I guess means I loved ponies before they were cool, or something. ;)
[EDIT:] by way of an official, more ponyish name for my pony self, I think I'm going with 'Dorey Starhoof.'

AMMAGOODNESS *crashpounceknock Doreypony over and snugs and ruffles on!*
*faves, then reads* Haha, symptoms of early-stage furry onset hee. And yes, the characters in this new series are... I man they're not complex or even realistic in any sense, yet they still fill some kind of social... like, when I watch the show, I feel like I've gone to a good friend's house meet for poker and cuddle night. Like that. And so what if you don't have vectory stuff (that's free with Inkscape even), it's so lovable and sweet. :)
*gushgushgush terrible* XD

Squee! I very glad you like. :) And yeah maybe they're too locked into specific emotions and personalities to really be that realistic but I dunno, watching the show they still manage to feel really believable like they could totally be real people. At least if more real people handled all their relationships in mature ways and didn't feel the need to swear at everything and insult people and stuff. But yeah that's the feeling, just watching the show you feel a bit warmer and safer and uplifted.
As for vectory stuff (and just better layer management) if I was feeling gutsy I'm sure GIMP would be way better than OpenCanvas, but it's awfully intimidating to try and jump into a new drawing program. Especially 'cause when I get into a drawing mood I wanna draw right now and get the image out there, not fuss around trying to learn stuff. ^^ OpenCanvas is derpy but I know how it works at least!
Anyway I'm glad ya like it. ^,,^
