The second pic commissioned for the Starfox fanfiction, the link: https://archiveofourown.org/works/5.....ters/127367320
As an artist, I'm always excited to portray the ideas of my commissioners, no matter how detailed the description is. I like to work with a more defined vision rather than artistic freedom, but I think the opportunity to make the original idea shine even more is an essential skill for an artist. My goal as a freelance artist is to make the best result for my customer, even if it won't find a huge response from my audience.
Another important thing I've learned from posting here on FA is that people tend to care less about the technical/artistic execution of the picture rather than the idea, mood, or story. It doesn't mean I didn't ever think about a story in my art, moreother I've tend to see a whole process from the artist's perspective, not the viewer's. It's a valuable (and a bit painful) lesson I've learned this year about art which I've lost behind racing the development of artistic skills.
I hope you're having a good time. Happy holidays!

I think people tend to have a list of priorities in their mind when commissioning art that starts with the parts they have the most control over. Their initial ideas for the artwork are the most important to them since it's their largest creative contribution and the technical aspects of the artwork tend to be lower since they're mostly controlled by the artist. Most commissioners aren't trained artists which makes discussing corrections of the finer details difficult, but I think most people still recognize and appreciate good execution when they see it. At the least, quality helps you stand out from all of the other artists around here.
Thanks for clearing things up, I've never thought about it that way! Yeah, the initial idea is the core of a piece. I just wanted to show my appreciation to people who have a clear vision about what they want, because it's easier to come up with visualization for the future piece. I know many people struggle with ideas, so they usually let artists have full freedom of choice, I personally struggle with this kind of approach a lot due to lack of background knowledge of the commissioner's character. Also, I agree, that the viewer shouldn't be an expert in an artistic field, it's my job to bring ideas to life using any of the technical methods like composition, color, etc.
I think I mixed two different topics in one post haha. Nowadays quality of art has risen a lot, there are a lot of good artists in this field. It's really difficult to stand out without a clear theme or direction. So this year I just realized that no one would ever be interested in art without a direction in it. I mean, fanart is popular because it already has a backstory/familiar character, OC is basically like a fanart for an owner. A developed readable idea is a part of good quality/execution which I've missed.

Beautiful! And I agree with Cheez. I can't tell you exactly why I like it, but I can tell you I like it, lol. I also appreciate context and backstory. When I think about commissioning art, I need to have some kind of context for the piece for my to commit to the whole process. I prefer art with a setting and scenario rather than a still pose in empty space, personally
I see now ha ha, I usually can't separate execution and content/action/story in a picture when I see it. I think that's the reason that usually distracts me. Also, I don't take into account obvious non-story pics with still poses with no bg, I mean I realized how important to push the idea/focus to be as readable as possible even if the initial idea is very common.
