This is my work space. Finally got the internet working on this thing again, but the cracks are spreading and soon it'll get to the point where I can't use it anymore. I have no warranty or insurance or anything on it.
Does anyone have any advice for me? :(

i personally didn't do it, i just opened it up one day and it was starting to crack. i think my boyfriend left it out on the bed and then left the door open and the dog sat on it while it was closed or something. i know this one girl who has the same kind of laptop as i do, and hers has cracked twice without her having dropping it. this is the second time mine cracked too. the first time, i grabbed at it to tilt the screen back and touched the screen and it just cracked. shouldn't have grabbed it from there, but still, this thing is fucking weak i swear. maybe if i get it fixed i'll sell it and use some of the money to get a mac instead. my boyfriend has one and treats his like shit but that thing is invincible. i think hell would freeze over before it cracks, and he's dropped it before. i've never once dropped mine.
Mactac is an adhesive plastic coating they use on windows after being broken but still in their frame to seal out any air or water from getting through. The screen on laptops uses 4 colours of liquid crystals to display things on screens: Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black.
I've had a friend do this for his screen and it worked like a charm.

its actually not too hard to replace those screens . . . . just a hell of a lot of screws . . . . i do it all the time . . . . i even replaced a pristine and new lcd on my old craptop that was glossy with an aftermarket higher rez matt screen . . . . no problem . . . it just took a heck of alot of searching to find the compatible screen lol. If the laptop doesnt seem to start overheating . . . . yer easiest solution is to connect and external monitor. I know you loose yer portability, but aside of having the machine professionally re-screened ( if you cannot do it yourself ) can cost quite a bit. Those lcd panels normally run about 1oo bux sometimes more. . . . ebay is a good start but google yer model laptop for a replacement panel first. Some pc repair part wholesalers will have them . . . . sometimes at a great price with faster shipping than ebays sellers . . . . . You may be lucky and have one of the few dells that have a generic lcd panel which can actually cost ya about 70 bux and maybe 20 minutes worth of work . . . . . . most dells i worked with the lcd enclosing bezel was pretty easy to dismantle, few screws, a couple of pressure points popped and voila! Panel screws. uhm anywho, if ya lived close to me, and could get the screen i could pop it in right away . . . and wouldnt charge ya lol . . . i dont normally charge for pc work if the customer supplies their parts and its a routine swap LOL ( least for my friends and family ). But do be careful, while i have not seen too many instances where the lc leaked from the panel it can and can be very toxic.
it is dirt easy to do . . . . I had no prior training to fixinf pcs . . . it was all just trial and error for me . . . . and i fix pc's on the side for a living now lol . . . . Lcd liquid leakage will not occur in you situation as long ass the outter pane of the panel is solid. The only leakage that may happen is the very sides of the panel. Unlike what was stated before the lcd crystals are red green and blue . . . . just until revently has there been the development of using a fourth pixel color of yellow . . . . anywho. It is very easy to do, the only nasty part of doing the replacement yerself is the ribbon cable . . . They just dont like to stay put when you plug them back in LOL . . . worste case youll just have to pop the bezel open again to reseat the cable. n.n I had one cable break on me in the 400+ some odd laptops i fixed . . . . and thats cause the screen was literally SHATTERED . . . i mean plexi chips were stuck all over the screen and in the laptops keyboard . . . . there were little chunks falling out as it was given to me. The screen had sliced into the cable . . . so when i dislodged the screen the cable seperated. 3 bux more on top of the screen in that fix. Normally the panels will come with matching cables . . . . but normally you wont need them. I actually try to teach peeps to do easy fix it jobs when drop off the machines or are around as i fix them LOL Its really annoying to get a pc back constantly cause the graphics card popped out of its socket or had been misaligned. Actually yer kinda lucky . . . i seen screens with ONE little crack and the whole screen was unuseable lol yer still pretty much in business compared to what i have seen. THats where tru-led screens may have a future . . . i have seen them with cracks and no visible distorion. . . . figure that one out O.o
D: It's easy! I'm a girl and I've done it!!
First thing is first, find the model for the panel. Then just unscrew/unclip, unplug, replug the new one... rescrew, and done! It's really easy, just be careful with it! Also don't freak out if something wont come off (like the plastic around the screen area) sometimes it takes bit of patience to unclip them >.<
