Looks like a great meal^^

While the obvious appeal of an otterpede is... obvious, to me. I think what scored the fave the most was the tiny otter giving the thumbs up. I can't stop giggling at that. ^_^

Quite the biiiiig critter. Not so big as to make the orca look un-filling, but appreciably large while it still creates a thick bulge. <3

I read about that too. One mid dized orca washed up with 7 otters in her forestomach.
As for giant otterpede evening the playing field, it sounds like a monster movie I'd like to watch.

The current thinking seems to be that overfishing has reduced the seal and sea lion population, so the orcas are eating otters. It was compared to eating rats instead of nice fat seals. So people are to blame, as usual. 83

That is a likely cause. I heard similar things about the shark hunting orcas in south africa that messed up the hwole food web over there.

Yeah, the idea of orcas eating sea otters sounds like a "desperate to avoid starving" route. While it makes a good monster scenario in art, it's an utter tragedy in RL. There are few worse ways to go than starvation, and I've seen what happens when an entire pod starves. Even for an old horror maven like me, it haunts me.

This is probably the more merciful way for that orca to go than what's actually happening to them.
