Bug does not need to harness the energy herself. Think of it as the movement of a water wheel - the existing flow of the water, the dynamic energy of it, is what rotates the wheel. Similarly, Bug acts like a circuit to the existing energy around her - letting it flow in and out while she pushes closer, pulls outwards, or tears apart on the distortions to cause a gate to appear. Her horns are highly in-tune sensory instruments, that guide her through the process intuitively.
