They were endangered at one time, but conservation has brought all but the Mississippi variety back from the brink.

And what's worse, they know they're still protected. So they stop traffic, eye you like you owe them money, and talk shit when you finally succeed in getting them to move on.

Moose, however, have the heft to make you regret trying to boss them around.

I've hit two whitetails in fifty years of driving. A full-grown buck almost totaled my new '83 Renault and the other was a <1 year-old fawn (still wiped out my front clip). We seldom see moose here, but they are coming south from Maine.

Pity about the fawn. I do of course hope you didn’t get hurt either time.

She raced up in the scrub along the side of the road and I didn't see her until she darted in front of me. 10:30 at night in October; dark as a coal scuttle and even with my SilverStar halogen high beams I didn't see her until literally the last instant (and burned off some tire tread to no avail). It always breaks me up; I definitely shed a few tears for her.

I wasn't injured in either accident, thanks. Dad started us on seat belts early on (1962).

They don't have to get off your yard and you can't touch them or do anything about it because they're protected that means you kill just one or harm or injured or even poisoned one of them than that means jail or prison time if someone sees and reports seeing you doing so
