So I'll admit the main reason I wanted to do this was to try and draw a cowboy hat on a fox and think about how it would best wear a cowboy hat. Somewhat like with the baseball one I really thought about what the purpose of the hat is. And as far as I can tell, the main point of a cowboy hat is to keep sunlight out of the eyes without any restriction to vision. But then the issue comes with how to manage that with those large ears. Because you also would want to have those ears able to pay attention to the surroundings. And I figure that the best way for this particular case would be if the hat was almost H-shaped. That the hat would hook around the ears. This way, the ears are free to move without knocking the hat off and in fact in many regards the ears would also keep the hat in place. Maybe not as well as something that can hug the entire head, but better than it would just sitting between the ears. With this configuration, it doesn't matter which way the wind blows, at least one ear will push back against it.
As for the drawing itself I decided to go with a braixen just because (mostly because thing with big ears). I really like how the background turned out almost. I like how it turned out, that it looks like an actual environment for the most part. And I definitely like how the crass turned out. Maybe in a year or two I'l actually be able to draw a field or something rather than just rely on lazy rendered features. But the problem with the background is that I got the angle wrong. That the angle the ground seems to have, especially with the sidewalk is different than the angle the camera has with the subject. I also kind of messed up the coloring due to doing it on a few different days, so the tail, the skirt and head were shaded on different days, which is why they look very different, because I wasn't saving the colors between them and just doing the effect over each time. Granted, I definitely like this shading means far better than the fade method I was using like 2 years ago, but it does create problems between similar areas when colors change due to how I'm doing it to make sure they aren't interfering with each other. Anyway, total drawing time of 7 hours, 20 minutes.
