The desert is a beautiful place-- beautiful and dangerous. The relentless heat can dry a body to bones with terrifying swiftness, massive sand storms can instantly turn a city into tomb for the hapless citizens buried within. Rain may seem like a blessing until a flash flood sweeps away an entire caravan. To say nothing of the deadly predators that stalk the dunes, both hungry beast and shambling crimes against nature left behind by a fallen empire. Many turn to magic for protection, but in the desert even mages have to find the means to make the most out of what little resources they have. Thus Sha'ira has found a creative way to forge magic items from elemental fire and carefully sculpted sand glass. I could even see her using magically hardened glass swords or maybe a glass bow and arrows in battle (I played way too much Skyrim) just to add a cool twist on her magic so it seems more interesting and exotic. Even in the land of sand and sun, a flare for the dramatic never hurts.
