There was a while where people only posted "first" and it annoyed some that a person would just comment first just to be first. Instead of giving a genuine comment that the creator gets excited about reading. During this time the untitled goose game was becoming popular and so it became a running joke that star would release the geese from the game on people as a silly threat that became a running gag going 4+ years now.
I think I can appreciate what he tried to do there:
He knew that Star was going to be front-facing, the center of attention, and no doubt asked to have some words to say about this.
By setting a precedent of her being too nervous to speak under the guise of a joke about not yet knowing how to read, the public won’t expect much of a word from her for the rest of the day when she’s either too flustered or embarrassed to say anything.
That or I’m reading too much into it and am seeing the apologetic behavior I want to see from Star’s boss. : P

I see where you get that impression. The one I get is far less complimentary. I see it as Marello belittling her (not in a good way) and bringing the focus of the event back onto himself, taking all the credit for it. Granted, he DID set the thing up, but his reason is not so altruistic. I also look for him to find some way to get revenge on her for him getting himself booted out of the ABDL community.
From the look on his face, Yuri seems to be thinking the same thing, but I may be reading in too much there. Maybe Tessa will swoop in to save the day. Or put a round or two in Sarge's chest, whatever. ((of note: I would not say that if there still was an actual person behind Marello's character.))
In addition, Star is going to need to watch herself. The Charlie Brown smile and the blushy cheeks might out her. And that doesn't even consider if she starts purring. I advise extreme caution here.
