What a difference 2 years of hard work and dedicated study makes!
So a bit of backstory. On a random night shift in January of 2022, I had a ton of downtime and I was hopelessly bored out of my skull! I had a tiny random notepad and a #2 pencil with me, so I figured "Eh, fuck it, might as well try my hand at drawing!" and I doodled the first thing I've drawn in a decade. And thus my first OC was born! (She doesn't have a name yet, but I'm leaning towards "Haley" if I decide to flesh her out) It didn't look all that bad to me, so I decided to stick with it! Looked up some guides, started using references, started studying, and slowly started getting better! I also stopped being in denial about being a furry, and I finally put Delta down on paper!
About a year after that, I wanted to see exactly how far I've come, so I redrew the original in a proper sketchbook with a proper mechanical pencil! After that I really dove into studying the fundamentals a lot more. Lots of reading, watching, observing, technique development and refinement, seeking critique, and a METRIC TON of study pieces! Around the start of last year I also finally got my hands on a proper display tablet! (A Wacom One 13 for those curious)
After switching to a different drawing software (From Clip Studio Paint to Paint Tool SAI2), it felt like my progress only kept accelerating. Several character redesigns, a proper ref sheet for Delta, heaps of experimentation, much more in-depth study, challenging myself to do Inktober (Which I did complete!), and all of it has culminated in the 3rd sketch here.
Honestly, I can hardly imagine how far I'll get next year, but that's the joy in learning art, isn't it?
