In case you didn't know, I'm also a programmer.
I'm (not) studying ithkuil. I had an idea to write a programme to practice understanding IPA by ear. Here it is. Done.

The phonemes are numbered from 1 to 28, left to right, top to bottom.
In the programme, you have to enter the starting position for practice and the last position. And play!
And if you get bored, press ESC.
Press RMB on the sound icon to play the phoneme again.
Press the LMB, on the phoneme to make a guessing attempt.
P.S.: Don't be surprised by this amazing, ingenious, splendid, dazzlingly shining interface. It's... MINIMALISM!
P.P.S.: Maybe one day I'll make it more beautiful. Maybe.
P.P.P.S.: If you have a desire to dig into the code yourself, the programme is made on Blitz3D (yes, yes, exactly), the source code is in the "source" folder.

it's how they break up chinese graphemes.
it's a bit confusing because I think a lot of characters overlap. because some radicals are used with each other.
also "radical" is used because they're roots, so their associations are not clearly phonetic or semantic sometimes. - and sometimes are. not sure. but it makes it much easier to grasp CJK using this system.
I would still say it's still somehow simpler than english etymology somehow.
