You know what they say about boys with big wings...
I've been browsing through scifi romance for fun, just enjoying the varying covers that come up.. but I've noticed a trend of a lot of these aliens are not very /alien/; they're hot guys (or gals) with an unusual skin color or some extra bits tacked on. Like... I know these are not meant to be hard scifi, but it's so BORING! You're in monsterfucker territory and you're unwilling to fuck monsters?
So I redesigned one that particularly gave me the eyerolls. He's still a fully sapient being, completely able to give informed consent and even carry on a conversation- actually he can carry on a better conversation than his book counterpart.
He primarily walks using his large wings and hind feet. Stands at about 7 feet tall.
Cannot take off from the ground, he has to have a drop in order to fly

Especially when a book doesn't have an effects budget. Like... I get it when it's one of those "humans have colonized space and adapted to new environments" kinda deals... but it's usually just sooooo boring when they don't even try to give their aliens a few more differences.
