Chapter 3- Seekin’ Knowledge
Previously, Kuma had decided to head to Lemuria, the city where Kuma’s original people, the Mythical Clan reside, to search for answers about his kind and himself. First day he met the Prince of the Clan and his buddies with him remained to be on his toes, as it was nighttime, Kuma, already undressed a bit and writing the letter to his father.
“Oh!” Riyu exclaimed as he got the letter. “He had sent me a letter already?” Riyu asked himself as he tore up the seal and took a look at it.
"You got the letter, what did he say? He’s ok so far?" Tuskarr asked as he waited for him to finish reading.
"He is! He's arrived at Lemuria with no trouble getting in. And to my surprise, he even met with the Prince of the clan. A bit show off too he says haha." Riyu chuckled a bit.
Tuskarr: Oh lord. All that from day one?
As they continued chatting about what it says on the letter, General Max came in through the door as the guards walked in with a scroll of the mission report.
"I heard rumors about the king himself that he is going beyond as a tyrant and doesn’t care who dies as long as he gets what he wants. Let’s just pray the chimera doesn’t do something stupid to piss off the king." Max grunted as he handed the scroll.
"My son is very capable of handling himself, he had to prove it to me before, especially after Bait’s attack. And Max… he has a name too." Riyu said as he gave him a light stare.
"Mmmm…." Max growled a bit as he crossed his arms. "… I know I’ll call him whatever I want."
Transitioning to Kuma.
After sending a letter, Kuma lays down on the big bed, the room is quite big with a few things such as a desk and fridge with Freedo resting on the bed with him.
"I’m back in my homeland Huh? It doesn’t feel different compared to the treatment back home. Tomorrow I guess I could try to look around to find something about me. Maybe find out why we’re fighting? Should help Dad while finding out about me after all." Kuma asked himself, looking at the ceiling for a moment before closing his eyes for the night.
The next day, Kuma woke up with the sound of hearing a knock on the door, the same time with Freedo licking him.
"Mmm morning Freedo. Ughhh who is waking me up? Dad is not here so who?.” Kuma thought in his head as he got up in his briefs, shirtless.
"Coming!" Kuma yelled as he opened the door and when he did he saw Baratus showing off a heartfelt smile. "Good m- What the hell? Kuma shouted as he slammed the door in Baratus's face, cutting off what was Baratus about to say.
"Go- Oh hey fellah. Sorry, I startled you there just now. Just wanted to see if you were up or something haha." Baratus chuckled as he spoke from another side.
"No no, it’s fine! Just give me a second!" Kuma shouted as he put on his clothes and pants grabbed his bag and whispered to Freedo. "I’ll feed you in a bit, little buddy, hide in here.
"Freedo grumbled as he jumped into Kuma’s fur Kuma walked to the door, opening the door with proper greeting this time. "Sorry about that I didn't mean to be rude to you, your highness. Just didn’t expect you."
"Haha, no need to worry about that. After all, I'm always going around to meet others myself. You're not the first to react like that." Baratus chuckled as he rubbed his chin.
"Mmmm… alright… um whatcha doing checking on me? I’m just a guy who is just making a living and maybe looking around for history?" Kuma asked.
"Well, you bet there's history alright. I could give ya some company in case you'll need some help of course. I’ve got some brains along the brawns too. Baratus smirked as he gave himself a tap on his head and then flexed his arm.
"Haha, judging from your personality, I can tell you’re not all brawns." Kuma scoffed a bit as he saw him showing off again.
"Well I don’t know the way so I can’t say no. It had been a long time for me." Kuma said.
"Geez even though he and I just met, he’s trying to be nice and keep insisting so might as well,” Kuma thought in his head as he nodded yes.
"Haha great! Follow me, if you want history, you got it!" Baratus gleefully said as he guided Kuma to a large building.
The large buildings have a series of art and images of the history of Lemuria, most of them are so old that they don’t have writing on them as if they had been scrapped or chucked off.
"Whoa… This place has a huge history. I mean Lemuria is where it started right?" Kuma said as he looked around the place.
"Yep! Baratus said "And this is not even half of the history, we got around the kingdom."
"Mmmm…. Kuma said as he stared at the first picture of the current time like Riyu fighting against an Orange older Orc looking like Baratus, who could be Baratus's father.
"And this is… Kuma softly said as he placed his hand on the painting and he looked close at the painting. "… current events?"
"Oh.. yeah. This was when my father fought the Dragon King himself, Riyu. Very powerful, yes but honestly, I don't know why my father would want to fight such a pacifistic kind of guy. I've always seen his actions as annoying and violent without reason and yet I can't oppose him. He is my father after all.."
"Mmmm…. I guess he is a pacifist guy after all. Kuma said to himself as he felt proud of him for a moment then moved on to the other paintings of the first kings and queens of the past. "And has this been like this for hundreds of years? Is there a reason why we started fighting? Or no one knows why? I can barely read what it says."
The art shows the picture of the old dragon leading the Animal Clan away from the Mythical Clan as well as the other tribes separating. There is a drawing of three weapons, a spear, a fan, and a whip which seem to the used by three cloaked figures led by the giant being with a halberd weapon, fighting off the 6 figures.
"What is this... the story of the first King of the past? And what are those figures? The beginning of Demon Cross?" Kuma asked as he tried to understand the art but the words were either scarped off or unable to read the lost language.
"I wish I knew it myself, little guy. As you can see most written parts are either hard to read or have been scrapped off.. As if no one wants us to read them. I don't know much about this Riyu Kor but I'd be more grateful to have a father like him instead of the one I have.." Baratus sighed as he just mentioned his father.
"I've had a rough time growing up, always taking orders and not being able to do what I wanted to do in the first place. mostly training, being punished for even attempting freedom... and here I am. looking like a titan and with some scars for that too. and a beard so I look more gruff or whatever."
"Don’t say that!" Kuma exclaimed as he grabbed his shoulders and looked at him.
"You may have a harsh growing up but you still have different beliefs than your dad! You shouldn’t give up on your freedom and your beliefs! It’s not all black and white. Just because you have the genes and the darkness inside you doesn’t make you a bad guy! Don’t you ever want to stop this endless cycle of hatred? I mean…" Kuma started to trail off as he let go of the shoulders.
"Have you thought… Animals and Mythical could be friends? Restore the connection to other Clans? Could it be possible?"
"Well.... I did think about that a few times. but I'm not even sure if it's possible… Even if I try, the animals and Mythical may still have some strong hatred for each other later on. I even heard Riyu used to be part of our clan but his Dragon family in the past chose to help and lead the animals back then when the war started. I find that very admirable." Baratus said.
"That history with d- I mean with Riyu’s ancestors! That is a good example that could make it possible. Just keep dreaming about it… I just think if we all work together this could become a reality… I can see it in your eyes… you’re not a monster as you think you are even if you try to be. I’m sure… there will be a day where you have to step up and make him hear your voice to reason." Kuma said as he just looked at Baratus's eyes.
"I mean....I don't mean to overstep.... but I know a good character when I meet one"
He silently listened to him, and he then hugged Kuma without saying anything.
Kuma stayed quiet as he rubbed Baratus’s back softly, comforting him.
"Thanks for that. Kuma. I do not have any friends but you were being so nice why? You're the only one who is not… scared of me?" Baratus asked as he broke off the hug.
"Because you’re the son of the Tyrant? I… I mean what I said. I can tell you’re not the killer. Because my dad is the same as you are. Wanting to end the fighting and restore peace between the clans once as it was before. It's a silly drama I know but it's a great goal." Kuma said.
"Your father..? He sounds like a great man. But.. I thought the Chimera Clan was extinct. I’m even surprised I’m talking to one. The last time I talked to... was years ago." Baratus said as he tried to think about what happened since he was a child.
"I was nothing but the young kid myself as well. It was a few months before that... day..."
"He is… wait what?" Kuma said as he gave off a confused look.
"Yeah.. you didn’t know? Your species is known for having great mana storage and abilities. They’re even a little stronger than the rest of the Clan here. The last one was killed off almost 10 years ago. There was some kidnapping that happened. That night, when the mysterious killer vanished.
“10 years ago… around the time I was adopted? I still can’t remember what happened to me?” Kuma thought in his head as he mumbled and then spoke. "Do you know what happened? Or the killer's identity? What went wrong?"
"I do not know much… My Father was there with my mother. But my father doesn’t talk about it. But all I know is this group of mysterious organizations… I do not know who they are or where they come from… had kidnapped young and powerful children for some rituals. Even some of the kids, including a chimera, were taken away. But what I heard. No one survived, except my father but that’s the day he changed. Yes, the rescue was successful but on the way back home... somehow things went wrong. Not even the remains of the kidnapped or the people who tried to recuse them. As if someone devoured them or worse...." Baratus said softly.
"I see… I was probably one of them but then Dad found me alone” Kuma thought in his head as he responded. "I'm very sorry to hear that".
"Thank you but I’m fine. But again that’s why I was surprised to see a chimera here 10 years later. Where have you been all this time?" Baratus asked.
"Oh Ummmm…. It's a little… complicated to explain. But do you promise what I’m about to say remains a secret for now?" Kuma asked as he rubbed his head.
"A secret… oh sure don’t worry I can keep secrets," Baratus said as he clenched his fist to his chest as if taking an oath.
"Ok..." Kuma said as he led in and whispered to Baratus’s ear. "I may be your kind, but I’m not actually from here… I mean I was but I was raised somewhere else after all this time."
"Oh? So you mean.. you've been raised by Animal Clan or something?" Baratus asked as he was surprised by this info.
"Sshhh!" Kuma said as he did the quiet finger motion.
"Yes, I was. But they’re not as bad as you probably heard. I see your side, you should understand my side. Riyu raised me with care and he wants to end things peacefully with no bloodshed but… your father is being unreasonable and keeps the fighting going…"
"Whoa, this is.. kinda new to me," Baratus whispers without making too much noise.
"And I wished I could just tell my father to not do this stupid war shit but he won't listen… he thinks whoever killed my mother is Animal Clan or other Clans fault."
"Just try to talk to him, I wish I could help but I can’t risk exposing myself yet… I’m going to go. To see if I can look for stuff about my birthplace. Just think about what I said ok? If this happened to me it can happen to anyone… it’s still possible to end this silly fight." Kuma said softly.
"Hmmm.. guess I’ll try. Thank you, Kuma. Don’t worry your secret's safe with me. Best of luck finding out more. I have to go now. It’s my father. He probably looking for me now." Baratus said as he turned to get ready to leave.
"I will and thank you again. I’ll be here until later." Kuma said as he waved.
Baratus leaves the museum while Kuma keeps looking around, looking for more info as Baratus heads back to the castle, thinking about what Kuma said.
