It is 19.10 when the big dragon from the cave near Åby loses its ability to fly and move. The dragon crash lands with a loud crash on the street outside the apartment building where Hasse and Madelene live. There will be a large crack in the cement where the dragon lands. The dragon breaks several bones in the left wing and screams in pain. Everyone in the house hears the crash and scream. Hasse and Madelene go and check in the windows what it was that was heard
They can see the big dragon from their living room window. Hasse immediately recognizes the dragon by its purple color and above all by the light blue mane that runs from head to tail. There is no other dragon that looks like this one although there are a few that are purple. One wing hangs at an unnatural angle. Madelene also recognizes the dragon.
The dragon thinks of his dragon queen over at the cave. He wonders how she is. The male wishes he had been with her now and never come along here.
The male tries to move his wings but nothing happens. He can't even get up and the dragon roars out his frustration and sadness. He realizes that he may never meet his beautiful dragon queen again. This makes him even sadder and he roars out more grief.
Hasse and Madelene and several others who live in the house see and hear the dragon. Hasse feels very sorry for it and for a while thinks about going down to it, but Madelene doesn't want him to. She thinks that the dragon might be more dangerous now that it is clearly damaged. Madelene doesn't want Hasse to get hurt for the sake of a dragon.
Hasse assures that there is no danger, but watches the news together with Madelene and most of the news is about the progress of the dragons in Gothenburg. A helicopter shows the devastation on Ullevi and Liseberg, which have been attacked most severely by the dragons. A reporter also shows the completely destroyed Nordstan shopping centre. Footage from several different surveillance cameras shows the dragons spewing fire and eating people inside the mall. The images of the people's faces are pixelated, but Madelene still looks away when the videos are shown. She doesn't want to see the misery. Hasse watches and feels sorry for the people.
Robert and the seven people still in the metal house also hear the male dragon crash and everyone gets very scared but when Robert looks at his watch he realizes that it is a dragon that has eaten the poisoned meat that has crashed and he tells them other seven people what just happened.
Robert walks out of the metal house to see if there are any flying dragons nearby. Just as he comes out, five dragons crash inside Liseberg but it seems that the 20 dragons that were inside Liseberg before have flown on. Robert believes that the seven people can get home without any problems so he lets them go and they start to make their way home to their homes.
Robert locks the metal house and walks over to the garbage truck. He sees that he has received several text messages and opens them.
The other 99 dragons who have also eaten from the poisoned meat also crash. The male from Åby and five other kites crash at Liseberg. It is only the male from Åby that does not crash inside Liseberg. Four of the 99 dragons crash just outside Olle's apartment building on Avenyn. Olle is cleaning up all the diarrhea he has sprayed in his apartment, but when he hears the four dragons crashing, he goes to his kitchen window to see what is happening out there. The dragons are so heavy that the apartment building vibrates slightly when they crash.
One of the four dragons that crash on Anenyn is the female from Lervik and one of her now adult offspring. The female is mad at herself for eating the meat without thinking, but she was so incredibly hungry after pooping all the food out of her stomach. She understands that she has been poisoned but cannot do anything about it.
Olle stands watching the four dragons from the kitchen window and decides to go out and talk to them and ask how they are doing. Since many of those who live in the apartment building are awake, Olle understands that he must be careful when he goes out. He puts on the leather case with the key and carefully opens his front door. There is no one in the stairs at the moment and Olle goes out on the stairs and quickly closes his front door.
Olle walks quickly down the stairs but still tries to walk as quietly as possible so that no one hears him. It doesn't seem like anyone reacts to there being a dragon on the stairs and Olle comes down to the front gate and opens it. Olle goes out into the street and approaches the four crashed dragons.
One of the dragons has seen when Olle left the apartment building and gets slightly confused. What kind of dragon is this that lives in a human house? The dragon who saw Olle coming out of the apartment building immediately greets Olle and starts asking questions about who he is. But the dragon that Olle is talking to thinks he is lying. A human cannot turn into a dragon. Something like that just can't happen and a male certainly can't lay eggs. It is absolutely impossible. Olle doesn't quite know what to say. He has told the truth to this dragon.
Suddenly Olle hears a woman's voice saying; I believe you. Olle looks up and looks for the female dragon that just spoke.
- I'm over here.
Suddenly, Olle sees a dragon that both looks and above all smells like a female and he walks up to her. Olle smells the female and she smells incredibly good. The female is grey-blue and has a very friendly face. The female looks searchingly at Olle.
- Who are you?
- My name is Olle.
- It was a strange dragon name.
- I'm actually a human who turned into a dragon. Otherwise I might have had a different name.
- How did it happen when you became a dragon?
- I was bitten by a dragon and a few days later I was transformed in my apartment.
- Can you become human again?
- No, it doesn't seem that way. You then, Are you also a transformed person?
- No, I was hatched from an egg. I still remember when I was newly hatched. Everything was so big and dangerous, but our mother took good care of me and the other cubs. Now I'm an adult and I myself have laid eggs and watched baby dragons hatch, just like me.
- Throughout my life since I was 10 years old, I have always been interested in dragons and now that I have become one myself, it is both cool and scary. Today I had terrible diarrhea and it was really not fun.
- I also had that today. I think I was poisoned by some meat I ate.
- Yes me too. But, I haven't just pooped a lot. I have also laid several eggs and they will hatch tomorrow.
- How many eggs did you lay?
- 75 eggs. It's the first time I laid so many eggs.
- Now I'm almost a little jealous. 75 eggs. I would have liked to see them.
- You can certainly do see them. Just follow me.
The female tries to get up but can't. None of her muscles obey her. She can't even move her wings.
- Unfortunately, I can't move. I can't go with you.
- But I could get some of the eggs. They are in my apartment.
- No, that is not necessary. I believe you. Someone might get hold of the eggs. Let them be protected where they are.
Olle nods. There is a risk that someone in the apartment building will see him go up to the apartment and collect the eggs. It's a risk he doesn't want to take. He can certainly spray fire at the humans if they threaten his eggs but that's not such a good idea.
- How many eggs did you get then?
- I have only mated once and I got 50 eggs and they hatched as they were supposed to. But the male that lived with me in the cave killed four of my baby dragons shortly after they were hatched.
- Oh my God. What did you do?
- I killed the male and the remaining baby dragons had to eat his dead body.
- Why did your male kill four of the baby dragons?
- I'm not sure but he was mean to me after we mated. He didn't care about me when I laid the eggs and he refused to feed the baby dragons when they hatched.
- About the eggs again. I think it's strange that I, as a male, lay a lot of eggs. After all, females usually do that. I haven't even mated with anyone.
- It is very unusual, but it can happen that even males can lay eggs and if so it happens asexually. Unusual as I said but it can happen and I think that is what has happened to you. You should feel proud.
- I do too, but I still think it's so strange.
- Life can be very strange sometimes.
Olle continues to talk to the female and he feels that he is starting to have a little crush on her even though she can't move. It is not the outside that is most important, but the inside. The female has a very soft inside and Olle feels sorry for her.
In the meantime, while Olle is talking to the female from Lervik, Robert is driving towards the Nordstan shopping centre. Robert has received several text messages that several dragons have completely destroyed the mall but he wants to verify it himself as well. When he gets close to the shopping center he sees that the road is blocked off by the police and emergency services. But Robert is allowed to drive on when he has shown his ID.
There is still heavy smoke coming from the mall and Robert can see that large parts of the plastic roof have completely melted down and are no longer there. High flames are constantly rising from the ICA store even though the firefighters are trying to keep the fire under control. Most of the goods in the store have already burned up but the walls are still burning heavily. A fireman has tried to enter the shopping center but had to go back out because the fire inferno, which is still raging at full speed, makes it too hot inside.
Robert parks the garbage truck in the back where the firemen and ambulance are. Robert walks up to the ambulance and greets the person standing there.
- Hi, My name is Robert and I come from the defense. Are there any survivors from this?
- Some of the people managed to get out through the exit over here, but none of those who ran towards the main entrance made it. The police have recently received footage from the surveillance cameras and the dragons entered through the main entrance and created chaos. In the beginning some dragons just pooped on people and ate some guards but then...
The man standing by the ambulance starts sobbing and Robert understands what happened next but after taking several deep breaths the man continues to tell.
- Several dragons then got in and started spewing fire everywhere and the fire alarm went off. Those who ran towards the main entrance met the dragons and were burned but also eaten. After a short while, all the dragons began to fly in a wide line and continuously spewing bluish fire in the mall on both floors. They just ignited everything with their fire.
- Oh jesus christ.
- As you probably understand, many of the people died from the fire of the dragons. The worst was when some people were at this exit and were just about to open the door, were hit by the blue fire of the dragons and died. There were over 150 people in the ICA store when the dragons flew into it and started spewing bluish fire. No one in the store made it. This is a dark day for many in Gothenburg.
- My God, poor people.
- The only thing that can be positive for them is that they died quickly because the fire of the dragons was so hot.
- I tried to save the last people left on Liseberg. When we started running towards the exit, there were over 60 of them, but when we got out, there were only seven of them. The rest of them were burned up by the dragons.
- It's too damned.
- I dumped poisoned meat outside Liseberg earlier in the evening and 100 dragons ate the meat and they are dying but earlier in the day there were over 300 dragons at Liseberg. I had hoped the meat would be enough for more dragons.
- In any case, you have tried to stop them and it is very well done.
- Considering how many people died here and at Liseberg, it still doesn't feel like enough. We in the defense are there to protect the population and the country and we have failed this time.
- You shouldn't be so hard on yourself. Tomorrow you may kill several dragons.
- We will do that, but it is too late for many people. They cannot be saved by the dragons dying. If anything else happens during the evening, call me.
Robert gives his phone number to the man at the ambulance and Robert then gets into the garbage truck and drives home to Toltorp again. The road home is completely deserted and he hopes it's because the people are home and haven't been swallowed or burned by the dragons.
Many of the dragons who are away at Slottsskogen are getting desperate. Some of them are extremely hungry and they find absolutely no food in the park or nearby. The dragons argue with each other about what to do and finally decide to fly back to the city and look for food there. All the dragons take off from the park and fly to the city.
The flying dragons do not see a single human as they fly into the city. Everything is deserted and quiet apart from a few cars driving on various roads leading to and from the city. None of the dragons like the dull concrete that is everywhere in the city. Most of the dragons are used to large wheat fields and forests and fine vegetation.
The dragons are constantly sniffing for food and they fly a little lower down. The dragons pass an open McDonald's and the smell from the restaurant is enticing but the dragons think there are too many cars and people moving down there and they don't want to have to spew fire after being scolded so much by the purple dragon earlier today so they fly further.
A dragon flies past a large shop window and stops mid-flight. There is plenty of food in there, but there are large glass windows in the way that protect the food. Several other dragons see the same thing and they make a decision. There are no people in there so it's okay to spew fire on the window. Several dragons spews red-hot fire at the large windows and they shatter.
All the dragons now smell the wonderful aroma of lots of meat from the shop and they land and enter the meat shop and immediately start feasting on the good meat. It gets very crowded in the shop when lots of dragons are crammed into the reasonably small space. But some dragons discover that there is a large kitchen further inside and they make their way there.
In the kitchen there are lots of fridges and freezers that are bursting with good meat and the dragons that got into the kitchen open the fridges and rip all the meat out on the floor and immediately start feasting on the cold but very good meat. Even more dragons enter the kitchen and also start eating as much as they can. The first dragons to come out of the kitchen tear out all the frozen meat as well and spew half hot fire on it to thaw it.
Out in the store, the dragons who are there now have cleared all the shelves of meat and most of them also go out into the kitchen. It becomes like a big party buffet for the dragons with all the meat they can find and they eat it all with great appetite. When the dragons finally leave the shop, there is no meat left at all. The now satiated dragons fly on in a deserted city.
It is 8:05 PM when Hasse steps out of his apartment building and approaches the reclining large dragon that he saw hatch from one of the two eggs he found in the cave. Madelene doesn't want to go down to the dragon so she stays in the apartment. Madelene stands looking through the window and sees Hasse getting closer and closer to the dragon.
Hasse finally arrives at the big purple dragon. He walks up to it so he is standing in front of it. He doesn't want to go behind the dragon. Hasse has read that it is better to approach animals from the front rather than from behind.
Hasse can see that there are a lot of people standing in many stairwells and looking at him as he stands in front of the big dragon. He doesn't care about it. They don't know anything about this dragon, but Hasse does. He saw it hatch from an egg he found himself.
The dragon breathes with deep breaths and otherwise does not move at all. It can no longer move even if it wanted to. The strong toxin in the rotting flesh has destroyed most of its nerves and muscles.
The dragon looks at him while Hasse walks a little further. Now he is standing right in front of the dragon and they are looking at each other. The male recognizes him immediately.
Hasse feels a huge rush of confusion and torment coming from the dragon in his head and he suffers along with the dragon. But the greatest feeling he feels from the dragon is an enormous loneliness, and Hasse cannot protect himself from that intense feeling. Hasse somehow knows that it is the dragon queen that the male is missing. They will never see each other again and the dragon is fully aware of that. Hasse wonders if the dragon can convey the feeling of loneliness to his dragon queen.
Hasse realizes that he is a dragon whisperer after all, even if he himself has not admitted that it is so. That explains a lot of things. Among other things, how is it that the dragon queen and the male have always accepted him in the cave even though they have had dragon babies and unhatched eggs. Hasse is not aware of it but every time he has been in the cave he has sent out to the dragons that he is not to touch their baby dragons and is trustworthy.
The dragon that was in the cave in which they hid on Liseberg actually sent a message that it would spew fire, but Hasse did not hear the words, but only felt a strong threat to himself.
Hasse looks into the dragon's big yellow eyes but he doesn't stare into them because he knows it's impolite. Hasse feels the stream of confusion and torment from the dragon coming in waves. But the strong feeling of loneliness is there all the time. It creeps into his brain and burns like fire. Hasse feels he wants to distract the dragon and make it less sad so he starts talking to the dragon.
- I must say that you are still very beautiful and impressive. I especially like that light blue mane you have. It was so exciting to watch you hatch at my house.
While Hasse is talking to the dragon, it continues to breathe and look at the human in front of it. It cannot do anything else
- I saw you earlier today when you were scolding all the dragons. I guess you scolded them because they were spewing fire everywhere. I thought it was good to scold them.
The dragon begins to breathe less often. It takes longer between hearing the breath in and out. The dragon's gaze and memory begin to become more and more unfocused. What happened today? The male has difficulty remembering. The eggs hatched and some baby dragons died. Then he flew to the city and scolded the dragons who spewed fire at the people and.. But did eggs really hatch this morning? Were there actually any baby dragons that died? Did I really scold the dragons in the city? Who is that standing in front of me? Where am I? Who am I?
In the end, the dragon no longer knows who is standing in front of him or who he himself is. The dragon has even forgotten the beautiful dragon queen in the cave with whom he mated so many times. No thoughts or feelings move around in the dragon's brain anymore. The dragon is pretty much already brain dead. Only a small spark that takes care of breathing remains, but even that is starting to go out.
Hasse doesn't know exactly what's going on in the dragon's brain but he can see that that special glimmer of light that the dragon always had in its eyes has disappeared in just a few seconds and now it's completely gone. He only sees a completely blank and dead look from the dragon's eyes. Hasse no longer feels any confusion or torment from the dragon. He doesn't even feel any loneliness from it anymore.
Hasse doesn't know what to say to the dragon. He understands that it is not aware of him anymore. Its yellowish eyes seem to stare out into nothingness.
Hasse reaches his hand up as high as he can and gently pats the dragon's light blue soft mane. It feels very nice against the skin. Hasse also pats the dragon's purple scales. The dragon is pleasantly warm and its scaly skin is both hard and soft at the same time. He lifts the wings and looks at the amazing inside. He can see that one wing is damaged.
Finally, Hasse says something.
- My beautiful dragon. I understand that you don't have far left until you die, but I still want to say a few last words to you. Even if you don't remember me anymore, I will remember you. I remember your first stumbling steps when you were hatched. You and the dragon queen have changed my life so much since the two of you hatched and I think it is a huge shame that you will die this way. If you want to leave the world, let go, I'm not going to stop you. One fine day we may meet again in heaven.
The dragon takes a last breath. Hasse waits for it to breathe again, but it never happens. The dragon's eyes remain open but Hasse can see that life and soul have completely left them. The big dragon that hatched at Hasse's house is dead.
- Rest in peace, great dragon. You will always be in my memory as long as I live
Hasse reaches up as high as he can and closes both of the dragon's eyes. The people in the stairwells cheer and run out into the street. Hasse feels no joy, only great sadness. But he cannot show his sorrow to the people. They would never understand. Hasse bites down and swallows hard even though he just wants to cry. He feels so sorry for the dragon.
Hasse doesn't think the dragon's death feels decent. It died poisoned by meat it thought was edible. This dragon had done nothing wrong and Hasse thinks it is unfair that it was poisoned.
Away at the Avenyn, Olle has noticed how the four crashed dragons have become more and more unfocused and uncontactable. The female's gaze has become more and more empty and finally there is no life in the female dragon's gaze anymore. The female stares into the void.
Olle starts to call her but it's as if she doesn't hear or understand what he's saying. She doesn't even look at him anymore. Olle gets frustrated and starts pushing the female to get her to look at him again, but she doesn't react at all.
Olle hears the female exhale one last time, but she doesn't inhale any more air. She is dead and Olle feels his own tears begin to flow from his eyes. The female could have been a dragon friend that Olle could have enjoyed hanging out with. It would have become a bit crowded if the female had chosen to live with Olle, but he had not complained about it. But now she is no longer alive and Olle feels alone, very alone. He closes the female's sightless eyes and sighs heavily.
After a while, Olle enters his apartment building again and goes up to his apartment. When he has closed the door properly, he starts to cry loudly and for a long time. Olle does not care if he is heard and what the residents think of his sound. Sometimes life is so incredibly unfair.
Other dragons that also ate the poisoned meat also die but they have no company when they die and very few see when it happens. Five dragons die inside the Liseberg area and only the staff who are still there see when it happens. The staff are so close to the dragons that they hear when they stop breathing.
A dragon that has eaten the poisoned meat and died lies on road E22 and partially stops traffic in one direction. No one dares to move the dragon because they are afraid it will spew fire. They don't see that the dragon is dead because its eyes are still open and shining in the light of the cars' lights. Several motorists stop and take a picture of the dragon before driving on
After Hasse has seen the dragon die, he goes up to Madelene and they stand and hug each other for a long time. Madelene understands how Hasse feels and agrees. It would have been better if the male had been allowed to die next to his dragon queen but now this is what happened instead and it's nothing they can do anything about. After Hasse and Madelene have sat and talked for a while, they go to bed.
Several of the young dragon cubs hatched by Olle and trained by the male from the cave near Åby fly around in a deserted city. There are no people out and there is a sharp smell of fire smoke in several places in the city, and this makes the dragon cubs anxious and afraid. Their little hearts beat fast because of the fear and worry. Ideally, they would like to be with a parent right now.
Suddenly, the dragon cubs see the large purple dragon that taught them so much earlier in the day. The purple dragon is lying on the ground and doesn't seem to move. The baby dragons believe that the purple dragon is sleeping and they land near him. They want to thank him for teaching them how to best survive.
Some of the baby dragons push the purple dragon to wake him up. They whine loudly; wake up, come on wake up then. But the purple dragon does not wake up. The dragon cubs listen carefully and hear that the great dragon is no longer breathing.
Slowly but surely, the baby dragons realize that the big purple dragon is dead. The dragon cubs have never seen a dead dragon before, but they still instinctively understand what death is. Of course, the baby dragons are very sad when they understand that the dragon is dead.
The purple dragon was like a good father to them. Their own father doesn't seem to care about them and they almost dislike him a little after meeting the purple dragon.
The young dragons fly on into the night looking for a suitable place to sleep. After a while they land in Slottsskogen and they choose to sleep there. The baby dragons yawn and close their eyes and fall asleep.
Night slowly becomes early morning and a horrible day for many Gothenburgers becomes history. Many who do not live in Gothenburg cannot believe their ears and eyes when they see extra news broadcasts about the progress of the dragons. Some people think it's all fake, but it's not.
They can see the big dragon from their living room window. Hasse immediately recognizes the dragon by its purple color and above all by the light blue mane that runs from head to tail.
