This is me, standing next to Echo, our little house horsey. Her full name is Echo of the Storm, she is also a daughter of Dancing the Storm.
So, what happened here: we didn't have a foal halter that fit her, so I had been getting her used to being led with my bare hands, and with a rope slipped around her neck. There was no knot at the end of the rope, so if push came to shove, the rope would have slipped off her neck if I pulled on the loop.
Anyway, she'd been such a good little filly that I decided to get her a treat, so I brought her up to the house and stepped inside to ask someone to get her something. Then I heard hoof falls on the floor, I turned around to find myself face to face with Echo. My dad and I decided to take her on a little "tour" of the house, so that she could see where the two-legged part of her herd lives. This picture was taken just before I led her back outside.
No, we never had any trouble getting her in a trailer.

Mine do not test the fences but they are opportunistic. The rains and soft ground caused a fence post to collapse in a corner. I found them at a trailer park down the road trying to sweet talk the neighbor kids into giving them treats. Luckily they did not go out on the highway.
Yeah that is what I am used to myself. Now we are about 50 yards from the major highway through town and between a set of curves no less. Seeing cars doing 70 is no big shock. It was an ice storm when they got out the first time and even though people were still driving like crazy for the 20-30 min it took me to get them home from 1/4 a mile down the road... they walked right down the middle of the highway following me... not a single car came by. As soon as I had them back into the gate traffic resumed. I thank the gods for that one.
Wow, that...I'm not sure that I could own horses living that close to a highway. I've seen what happens when two cars collide, I'd hat to see what happens when a car hits a horse at those speeds. But I don't want to live a 2 hours drive from anywhere again. Even a trip to the grocery store cost us $10 in gas alone. An evening out cost us about $60 in gas. I'd rather live on the edge of town, plenty of land, not too close to any major roads, but close enough to a real town.
