At least military has some kind of basis in reality. I have this oversided, black plastic wanna-be brief case full of walking tanks ('Mechs from battletech. Hit up www.camospecs.com for a showcase of more madness) ... a orange tool box converted into holding an army of Space Marines (Warhammer 40k)... and there's a box in my room full of metal and plastic knights in several stages of assembly and being painted
Heck, back in the 80s - 90s when I was playing D&D there was a real craze for lead miniatures of various monsters, characters and such like. All of them tiny, all highly detailed. You used to see some offered for sale in dealers' rooms for 100 to 500 bucks. And people bought them. I wonder where they are now... In whose sock-drawer...
Well, my mom has a small shoe box full of D&D minis in the basement... and there's even a few Ral Partha ones in their little blisters around the house. Heh, fun part... some of the 'Mechs I have are also Ral Partha miniatures... some of which aren't reproducible because of a lawsuit.
Yeah... that would be the good idea, but I've painted them up for my own personal use (and they do get use every other month or so... course now with my friend whom I'd play against moving, it'll be a bit longer between uses). They're still legal for the game, the models I have are affectionetly called the "unseen"
Oh lord. I used to do doll shows. In one show, I was parked next to these two guys who specialized in Barbie accessories. Little plastic shoes and purses, etc. They got FABULOUS amounts of money for this stuff because these were the pieces people always lost when they were kids. I remember this one woman crying out in glee when she found two pink plastic highheels with matching purse in a little bag. "Here they are! Here they are! I've been looking for ten years and they've got them here for only $60.00!"
Heheh, okay I can't beat the matching plastic highheels and purse lady. I can understand her glee at completing a set or something like that. I do know there's this video of several "matchbox" toys http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aMY7.....;feature=feedu
Well, you'd max out the to-hit modifier at +4, meaning a standing unit would need 8's or better to hit you at close range. 20 Savannah Masters is about 4000 BV (BV 2 value), so.... that means a clan 'mech with a 3/4 pilot would be on par BV wise. Then it's just a matter of how many can be eliminated before you're swarmed. Though that's falling into the usual 1 against many trap that can happen in game, like an assualt 'mech against battle armor equal to it's BV :-P
I kinda prefer to finger the merchandise. Yes, whalers. Lewes Delaware was originally called Svaanandale. Valley of the swans. Although I've never seen a swan here. Plenty of snow geese, tho. I'm here because I moved down from the DC area to help with my ill father, who died three days after I moved. It has grown at lot since my parents retired here, in 1989, but it's still beach/rural. And on the other side of Rt 13, it's a whole 'nother country based on chicken-farming, chicken-processing and corn.
I don't know if they still exist but didn't they used to have these fabric sample books?
Mmm... Svaanandale would be spelled Zwanendal in present Dutch if it interests you. Perhaps the Dutch ate them all in those old times. Or it could simply be that those snow geese were mistakingly perceived as a kind of new world swans.
