To Mirik's defence water in cold temperatures is weird and not intuitively behaving to it's previous forms + even in different colds is it not behaving similarly. Coming from a tribal who does nothing but survive by knowing how nature works.
No wonder he thinks Daniel tries to imress him with outlandish tales - it's a hilarious setup, and Mirik's in for a ride
