This piece was done for a monthly prompt challenge.
When thinking about "longing," my two babies, Ava and Enzo, immediately came to mind. However, since there are already numerous sentimental pictures of them, I considered how I could approach the current monthly challenge more creatively. Longing is not always associated with positive emotions; it can be painful and even trigger anger.
Especially with Enzo, I vividly imagine how longing enrages him, as he cannot control this emotional state—similar to how he cannot control Ava. Enzo is in a leadership position and is accustomed to having control over everything and everyone. Generally, people in the Ministry are clearly subordinate to him. Only Lodo and Val are on the same level, followed by the actual leadership, consisting of seven individuals and their respective secretaries. Enzo has everything he wants, and what he still desires, he can simply obtain. This was also his expectation during the first meeting with Ava, and suddenly he finds himself confronted with a longing that is beyond his control. Because Ava is not subject to the rules of the Ministry. Titles mean little to her.
This situation is undoubtedly tormenting for him, an emotional roller coaster that may even challenge his otherwise firm self-control. While Enzo is capable of keeping himself in check at all times, it often requires significant effort. Lodo knows what we're talking about here.
In particular, I imagine the situation into which Ava has pushed him with her announcement of going into hiding is very intense for him. He waited for her, sat by the window under the full moon (a typical time for Ava to appear), and no one came. It's no wonder that he sought refuge in Valentino's garden to hide from his own feelings and try to suppress the situation. He is probably very aware of what he actually wants, but whether he is truly ready to acknowledge it is another matter (at this time).
