In Grott's story, gargoyles are guardians who are assigned to defend important buildings like cathedrals and skyscrapers and halls of government. When I first started writing it, I refereed to their designated plots of land as grottos. Grottweiler is a guardian-in-training, so his superiors gave him a much humbler grotto; a vacant lot behind a gas station in the Miami suburbs.
I've changed the lore a bit since last January, but the premise is the same. This was an early attempt to map out Grott's Grotto.
