For this and pretty much all the colored line art, I use a Niji stylist or equivelent fine line marker and Yasutomo Sumie Japanese watercolors. A few pieces, like the Art Ho line art was done with a crow quill dip pen, others, like the Coyote Girl and (crudely done) Mandy material was done with a brush. As for pencils, its all a .5mm HB hardness mechanical pencil.
Well damn, and here I am messing around with 2H, 4H, 2B and the like in the way of pencils. I do like your style of work specifically the pencil stuff. You somehow manage to capture feelings, emotions and actions in a way that I am trying to figure out how to do and keep failing at. Ah well back to the sketch pad! Thanks
Half the trick with a pencil choice is the paper choice. The "toothiness" of the paper will dictate a lot of how the pencil will work. Needless to say, I don't use hot press or plate finish papers or board, though they take ink lines better, they can make pencil work almost impossible, and watercolors work differntly on them as well.
That sounds about right. I think I bought three or four issues in the mid '80s on the say-so of the kid in the comic shop of the book store in town (which I think I've mentioned before). He also tried to get me to buy into this ridiculous series about anthropomorphic tortoises that lived under the city and practiced shinobi fighting skills. As if that would ever go anywhere. I did discover Usagi Yojimbo, Dalgoda and Stig's Inferno around the same time.
