The most widespread environment on the Planet Anu consists of vast open grasslands. Unlike moss or fungi, grasses are not as reliant on constant access to water. This in turn has allowed them to expand their range significantly and dominate the landscape, especially since trees are yet to evolve in this world.
The wide variety of grasses has led to the emergence of numerous spider species that have learned to exploit this (basically) endless source of food. So much so that a single grass stalk can house a miniature food chain.

The Leaf Vampire is a herbivorous species of spider that has evolved to feed on the sap of the grass it lives on. It bites into the leafy part of the grass and sucks the juices out of it. Through the influence of mana crystals, this little spider even became similar in appearance to a leaf.

The Seed Cruncher is a more derived herbivore. its chelicerae have become more powerful and allow this spider to feed on the seeds produced by the grass. This allows the Seed Cruncher to coexist on the same stalk as the Leaf Vampire, without being in direct competition for resources.

However, the grass serves not only as food for the spiders... but also, as a hunting ground.

The Grass Stalker is the first carnivorous spider we've encountered on Anu. This spider hunts other spiders, in particular the abundant Leaf Vampires. While most of its contemporaries opted to resign from using venom (seeing that you don't need it to feed on plants), this guy has kept this ancestral trait and uses it to great effectiveness. Grass Stalkers play a vital role in the grassland ecosystem since they are responsible for controlling the herbivore populations.

All three of the species we've seen today spend their entire lives above ground in the tall grass. They are just a few examples of what life on Anu is capable of. More predators and prey are yet to be uncovered.
