The clockwork brain needed some adjustments once in a while. Pins needed to be wound. Springs needed to be tightened. Everything to ensure that the automaton could continue its autonomous activities with minimal logical errors. It was a meticulous process, and lengthy too, sometimes spanning hours, if not the whole waking day. But a good mechanist needn't do this often, and that is something the automaton greatly appreciates.
