Concept doodle for a friend's D&D-kinda thing! A charr who treats magic with an engineer's mindset, writing down formulas and ingredient lists in a hastily-organized collection of spiral-bound notebooks rather than the traditional leather-bound spell tomes used by most Wizards.
Still not 100% on her fashion, I think she might have a bit of a 'No capes!' complex when it comes to long flowy wizard robes so she might take something a little more practical (but that still looks like she's basically wandering the lands in her pyjamas).

Any practical wizard with access to cheap notebooks would use them as their personal grimoires. And they use enough ink that they might as well write their spells and notes in them with a cheap fountain pen and converters. For serious research they'll need proper lab notebooks though.
All assuming a setting more technologically advanced than a typical D&D setting... and D&D sticks to strict tradition because dumb reasons.
