Ok. Here's something I've been working on for over a week and he's in the final stages. I'm quite wary of putting him online because the scan is absolutely horrid! There's just no way for me to fit a full piece of Bristol on the scanner, so I did the best I could.
I've reproduced one of the roosters I have done in the past but added a lot more detail background of insane lines and hatching. My hand...it begs for mercy now...but there is no forgiveness.
Be gentle in your judgement of this piece a remember that the scan does not equal the look of the piece in rl. Regardless, I think I'm in love with this bird. :) I'm going to frame him this weekend and show him off a bit.

WHOA! DUuuude. that background must have KILLED YOU! Holy shit, no wonder you were complaining about your fingers going numb. :) That's, I think, the best pen and ink you have done to date. The tonal range is nice N muted, you have a nice graded background that helps stand the rooster out from teh paper. The use of texture to seperate out composition elements.. awweeesome.. Now *THIS* is what I been talkin' about. :) Good job!
Wow, I'm most humbled by your words, Hawse. Thanks so much! You don't know how much that means to me, especially because you are actually looking at the piece critically and I appreciate that more than you know. I'll be honest I was almost afraid to put this online because I feared the worst and I vested so much time into this as well.
I think that it *is* one of my better pieces. *huggles ya* :)

I do believe that Hawse has summed it up quite well.
Man, that is just phenomenal, the way that you did the hash marks on the background is absolutely mind blowing, having it gradually going from light to dark and in such a seamless mater, it really is a awesome show of control.
And of course there is Mr Bok him self, hell of a awesome job, you really made him come to life, it looks like he has tons of attitude, most of it coming from the look in his eyes and his pose. Really love how you did the tail feathers as well. Congrats dude, this truly is a piece that you should be proud of. I would love to see you do one of your rubberbirds is this fashion.
And on a side note, Bok-bok-bok-bok-BOK!!

There's my gator! Thank, Karerease for being so good to me. Yes, it was quite a chore. I sometimes approach doing that kind of hatching with dread...but then I get lost in it and the elements I'm trying to render and it goes fast....this one took about 5 day total...but that includes the pencil work too. I was doing my best to make him stand off th page and I think I did ok. All the theory goes back to the DC Guide to comic inking, those principles are so very solid that you just can't go wrong.
Hey I think that's a great idea to do a rubberbird in a stylized ink fashion. Now that's a project that I'm going to take on...once I get a few commissions out of the way.
Bok boc BOK! :)

This is one of a pair that I sold to someone that wanted him as a gift for their mother-n-law, not a co-worker. Heh, my co-workers are too poor to buy any art. ;D
Though this piece is much different, as I've made the rooster a bit smaller so I could get more of his deliciousness on the paper, not to mention the background.
And yes, I bet you're very good are reproducing. ;)
