That strange feeling you get when you think something is behind you, but it turns out to be the six-foot-long tail you just grew.
I do remember Animorphs coming out when I was in elementary school. I think I only ever read about the first six or so though. Did they ever win against those brainworm things? It certainly was my introduction to a lifelong obsession with animal transformations. That, and probably the donkey scene in the original Pinocchio.
