P.O.V. : You thought you could rob a pair of female Lipane at swordpoint...
The jackalope-like Lipane come in many different colors and patterns and even their horns, if they have them, can have different shapes and sizes. In this example here we have a striped and spotted Lipane showing one of the many variations for their respective patterns, and the spotted one shows the more typical antler style horns while the stiped one has the more unusual curved horns. The shape of their horns and wether or not they even will have horns is completely random even if both parents have the same type of horns the child might be born without ever growing horns or having antirely different shaped ones. Fur patterns on the other hand are inherited from the parents, so you might occasionally see a Lipane with both tiger stripes and leopard spots combined.
Lipane legends say that they first got their horns when the ancient dragons gifted the Lipane as the first mortal race with the ability to use magic like the dragons. One of the ancient dragons took pity on the small and helpless Lipane who were prey to almost everyone, yet despite this the Lipane still strived for peaceful coexistence with others which only led to them being exploited even more. To better arm the Lipane against these threats the dragon Eidonasz decided to share the power of the dragons with them. She did this by plucking the row of horns from her brow and transforming them into the roots that the Lipane fed on, now commonly known as mana root, and hid them among the common root plants of their fields. Over time these first mana roots would spread their mana to the ordinary plants and transform them to mana root. When the Lipane ate them the essence of the dragons awakend their magical potential one by one and grew horns like Eidonasz's own as a result. Clever as they were the Lipane quickly learned to use this power to improve their lives and ward off their enemies, but after some time their power kept growing and accidents started to happen and the Lipane started to become afraid of their new power. So Eidonasz decided to tell them the truth about where this power came from and she taught the Lipane to fully control and harness the powers of magic.
What Eidonasz hadn't considered was that the Lipane would eventually start trading the mana root with the other races and by the time she realised it was too late, since now other races now had their magic unlocked but fortunately most of the power had waned so only a select few of each race gained magic but with random levels of potential. Thankfully peace was maintained since the Lipane were still the most powerful mages next to the dragons and wiith their pacifist nature they would only fight if there was no other way, so balance was maintained as few ever dared to attack theLipane again since that time.
One of those few were the Vossen who still kept hunting the Lipane, and legends say another dragon stepped in and took away the power of magic from the Vossen tp punish them though this did not put an end to the agression so the Lipane created a specialised spell to incapacitate any Vossen. This is the first spell any Lipane will learn to this day, Fox Fire, a small ethereal fireball that targets the dormant mana of the Vossen and causing halucinations and/or temporary paralasys. A simple unassuming spell that the Lipane can use to great effect and one that is a closely guarded secret because as much of a danger the Vossen might be the Lipane wouldn't want others to abuse this spell aganst them or others who can't use magic.
Eventually Eidonasz was betrayed by other dragons, who did not agree with granting magic to the mortals, and was killed by them, or at least her spirit was torn from her body as a living flame. Though her spirit remained in her lair untill the Lipane discovered it and decided to build their first city there, Ahk'Tanyun, and her spirit resided there as the first elemental avatar to watch over and guide the Lipane. These underground cities would turn out to be a haven for Lipane not only keeping them safe from the world above but also hiding their true numbers while they seem to be few in number living in small farming villages above ground.

Thank you.
I had mentioned the Lipane before in other things, I figured I would share some more info on them since it's been quite a while since I had their first concept sketches made. Also seemed like a good time to flesh out their origins a bit more. The Vossen and Lipane were the first races I created for this world decades ago so they probably have the most lore built, I just never really shared much of it so far.
