This is a sample of something I am considering doing for Anthrocon 2011. With the "magic" theme, I thought it might be neat to make custom spell scrolls for people. This is a sample that I did for Zeke Husky. A person would tell me what it is that they want a "spell" for, and I write the poetic text, translate it to Latin, and then create it on a parchment that is 5 1/2 by 17 inches. It can be rolled to carry with the person, or framed if they choose.

Zeke's spell is for "protection" and it roughly translates to read:
"With the speed of the wind
I ask the powers of the sun and the moon
To protect this dog
From the darker forces of nature
and the perils of drama."

I could only scan the first 3 lines, as the parchment is just too long to fit on the scanner bed. I may try to photograph it in full length later. I'm not a Latin expert, so the translation may be a little rough, but this was designed for fun anyway.

While this is just a rough sample I did in a short time, I am thinking about opening up for commissions if folks want a custom scroll to carry with them at Anthrocon. (It's definitely something not everyone would have.) I'm also working on medieval and renaissance animal designs such as a stylized wolf, fox, bird, gryphon, and so on. Plus I can add additional detail to fill out the scroll. Am thinking commissions would start at around $50 for those that want them...since it's a larger piece and requires me to write out something especially for each person. Commissions would be much more finished and polished...again this was just to show what it can look like stylistically.
